Does anyone know how Cheltenham College stacks up against other Co-Eds in the area? In particular the academic side and pastoral care in boarding.

I do hope that someone will respond, as I'm interested in this, too.

Fantastic school no issue atall with pastoral care or boarding my son was there from 13/18 from Beaudesert park. It’s a great great school

Thank you. How did you find the other students there? A friendly, wholesome crowd? What are the Big sports there for boys?

barefootcook · 22/06/2024 20:50

I think cricket, rugby and possibly football. Racquets and rowing were big too.

How is Cheltenham, academically? I know that a few years back, it had a reputation as a lovely but not terribly academic school.

@Cornemuse my son wasn’t academic but some friends went to Exeter Durham it’s a great school brings out the best in a child

Thank you. It seems a truly happy school and I was impressed by the warmth and enthusiasm of the students who showed us around, there.

It’s not super academic but I think that’s a good thing. If your child is bright, they’ll do well but they aren’t fixated on getting students straight 9s. If they are average, they’ll get support and do well.
Boys sports - rugby and rowing. The rugby master is an ex-Gloucester (& minor England) player and they have strong links with the DPP (can’t remember exactly what it stands for but basically the development pathway for the team) with Gloucester rugby. At least a couple of the first team at Gloucester are ex-chelt college. They have a strong rowing team with a couple of ex-olympiads.

That’s when it was a boys only school. They went co-ed and the results improved 😂

Thanks. Where would one find this data, please? Tried googling but it didn't yield anything useful.

Google "school league tables" from gov.uk.

However, DoE data on most independent schools will be incomplete as pupils may not be solely entered for GCSE qualifications as the school may make use of IGCSE. You might be able to get some useful stats, but it won't be a full picture.

Probably better to see what is on the school website or to ask for their data set if you want a true overview.
