Kingswood School Bath vs St Edwards, Oxford vs Dulwich College

My year 9 son has admission to all 3, I was wondering if Kingswood Bath is a better school than St Edwards Oxford? He will be a boarder and is very academic. I was told to consider the Dulwich College offer but we are not sure we want single sex school

Really looking for some insights

These are three very different schools and locations so unlikely you will get any posters who feel they can comment on all three.

I can confirm teddys js an excellent school though. For your DS? No idea

Agree, you are comparing an academic SE London boys day school that has a feeder prep and large 11plus intake and some boarders with a mixed 13plus entry boarding/day school in Oxford with a slightly odd gcse curriculum. I would consider:
Weekend guardians - which is better
Sports provision - which does he prefer
Gcse options - what works best
A level results - which are better if he wants to study medicine / law etc.

Thanks Everyone. All the feedback I have received appears Teddies shouldn't be on my list. I am now left with an academic school vs a school with great pastoral care. My son is very academic but will thrive in an environment where he is supported as an individual. He is definitely doing boarding and is big on Music

I would if Dulwich pastoral care is good? Any thoughts?

tennissquare · 02/12/2023 17:23

@Renua , Dulwich College only had 129 boarders v 1725 day pupils in the ISI report for 2022 so I don't think you will get much of a snap shot of pastoral care for a boarder on MN. I'm not sure how it ended up on your list instead of Caterham / Tonbridge / Sevenoaks if you want SE London to Kent.

Rennypie03 · 02/12/2023 17:40

Sevenoaks is IB. I am not sure if many UK units appreciate it? Tonbridge well I kept being told my family is down to earth and Tonbridge is too snobbish a school - this is very different to what I have read now on MN

Thank you for the feedback

@Rennypie03 , yes good points. How about Bede's in Eastbourne or Lancing College?

Teddies is deceptive. Not what it says on the tin at all

I’d be interested to know in what way. It’s a school we are currently looking at.

Hi there, I have a visit planned for next week, what should I look out for in particular? Is it pastoral? bullying? drugs? academics?
some indication will be very helpful please

I have put two boys through Teddies. Both sporty and academic. Both came top of the 13+ academic intake. Yes Teddies is not a top academic school in the sense that it will take a range of abilities. However the school has made the most of their abilities with a top IB result for my eldest and 12 grade 9’s GCSE’s for the youngest. Plus a win at Henley for rowing!
A very good school indeed that suits a wide range of abilities as long as your child is willing to get stuck into all that is on offer!
