Anyone have children at this school? Considering sending my son from age 3.

I was wondering how long the Saturday school day is and how much of their weekends is taken up with homework on top of the Saturday school? I understand weekday homework but would hate for him to spend his whole weekend doing schoolwork too.

I also wondered what the learning support was like for dyslexia at the school as I myself am dyslexic so know there is a chance he will be too.

Finally, if anyone went there or had children there, what is your overall experience/ view of the place?

TIA x

Yes, I know it well and can say good things about it. I don’t know if I would consider entry at age 3 though, unless you live particularly close by or need wrap around childcare.

Re Saturday school: they are restructuring from 3 schools (pre-prep, Prep, senior) to 2 schools (Prep/senior from 11) in a couple of years, and I think are getting rid of Saturday school for the Prep children.

no idea about provision for those needing extra help, but it will be there. I would suggest contacting admissions and asking your questions; they are generally approachable and helpful.

We have found it to be friendly & nuturing. They don’t tolerate bad behaviour and I have heard children have been asked to leave in some situations. Great for extracurricular (particularly sports/music).

Private message me if you like.

Its a brilliant school, friendly and healthy competition but not pressurised

I went there (many years ago) and it was an amazing experience. The house system is excellent, very nurturing. So many opportunities and not just the traditional academic or sporting.

St Peter’s is a lovely school with great facilities, good teachers and excellent facilities but it is about to change from pre-prep, prep and senior to two schools so it’s hard to know exactly what their plans are re Saturday school and prep. It’s probably worth asking them. If you’re in York I’d definitely look at Bootham too. It’s a really fabulous school, supportive and tolerant of everyone and seems to bring out the best in each and every child. It ended up being our preferred option by every one of our children and we looked at both St Peter’s and Bootham each time.

My daughter was at Bootham and absolutely thrived.

My DC are also very happy there. Bit late to this, OP, but Saturday school will be from Y7 (instead of Y4) with lessons until home time at midday, and I believe Y9 upwards will have the current senior model of lessons until lunch and then sport in the afternoons. This is as of Sept 2025.

Having recently moved on from a school in Harrogate due to a change in career toward support work, I chose to send my daughter to St Peter’s School in York. While the school is often praised for its academic accolades and rightly so I want to focus my comments on an aspect that often goes unsaid: the incredible pastoral care within the boarding house.

It goes without saying that St Peter’s excels academically, standing out as one of the top schools in the region. However, what truly underpins this academic success, in my view, is the nurturing environment created by the teaching and pastoral staff. From my personal experience, the care and attention provided in the boarding house have been nothing short of exceptional.

Due to my work commitments, my daughter has been a flexi-boarder at St Peter’s, and I have been absolutely blown away by how much she has flourished this year, not only academically but also personally. She often speaks of a deep sense of belonging and describes the boarding house as a close-knit, supportive family. Despite the school’s large campus and considerable pupil numbers, she is known and recognised by all staff a testament to how well the school values each individual child.

The behaviour and attitude of the pupils also reflect the school’s strong moral values. It’s clear that the ethos of respect, kindness, and support is not only taught but lived by the students.

As a parent of three children who have attended various schools across the region, I’ve never felt compelled to write comments before. But in today’s world, where the choice of school feels more important than ever, I believe it’s crucial to highlight institutions that offer not just academic excellence, but also a safe, caring, and nurturing environment. St Peter’s School has delivered all of that and more over the past year for our family.I would definitely recommend St Peter’s
