This is a thread in Black Mumsnetters if you are not black or a POC your views aren't wanted.

The Tories clearly has a problem with racism. They are in government.

They target ordinary people - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/black-man-hate-crime-raccoon-emoji-b2508680.html

but they defend this -

Reading some of those comments defending what that person said about Diane Abbott, is truly depressing. How on earth can someone sit there, and say that they don't think that what was said was racist, or gender based!! We are in scary times here, as far as I am concerned. This Country seems to be going backwards when it comes to outward expressions of racism. Also nothing will be done about it, the weak PM will no doubt just ignore it all. I am just so fed up with these people thinking that they can just say whatever they like about black people, with zero consequences.

Starseeking · 12/03/2024 11:48

Imagine being a Black woman sat in the room when he made those comments. Absolutely disgusting, and no-one is challenging them on it.

I don't think he has black employees. He does have East Asian employees.

According to reports they have had to deal with racism from him and many of his ex-employees mental health suffered while working for his company.

Oh and his excuse is that he has Irish heritage.

Point is he is known to be racist but the Tories just care about his money.

He can’t be racist, he does business in Jamaica.
Jesus wept!

Bonnylassie · 12/03/2024 21:57

I have just read every comment on the AIBU chat about this and seriously I despair at the amount of openly racist people on there, or yeah it was racist but DA is and then slagging her off, or and this was a real gem, yeah I think it's racist but not racially motivated. 🤯

I was 9 I think when DA was elected, my parents aren't particularly political but it was celebrated in our house. I look at my 11 and 9 year old and wonder how far we have actually come. I actually came here looking for a thread about this were I could just vent.

Moonshine5 · 12/03/2024 22:00

It's a sorry state of affairs.
I feel ever since the Boris Johnson govt / Brexit it's become acceptable to say openly racist things - particularly about people of colour.

Moonshine5 · 12/03/2024 22:02

It's not even a top news story.

Reugny · 12/03/2024 22:07

They don't want it picked up by foreign news sources and explained properly.

After all the UK isn't racist...

The Tory party at the moment are outright dangerous. It seems as though there is no way they did not know as this man clearly has no filter. If you actually go on Glassdoor you’ll see that the screenshots making the rounds are the tip of the iceberg. So many mention racism and one commented that a black female employee was subjected to the standard “pretty for a black girl”. Apparently they tend to hire and fire lots of graduates so it’s young poc he will have inevitably been harassing.

I hadn’t even heard about this emoji trial. This coconut nonsense has been taken so far. It’s not nice, but let’s be honest, it has never chiefly been about politics. I’ve had coconut from some ignoramus about avocado as though we don’t all have a tree within a half mile radius at home. How is it acceptable to waste public money on this? A black man is hysterical because another black man was wrongly identified and shot in the head by the police. So unreasonable…

Ignored after standing up 46 times during a debate about her. No words.

Diane is so dignified in the face of such blatant gaslighting. It's almost unbelievable that she was denied her voice in a debate focussed on discussing an event which intrinsically involved her.

I dare not say the words explicitly at risk of a ban, but if you had removed Diane Abbotts name and replaced it with the name of say Esther Rantzen and said the same thing derogatory things about women similar to her, heads would have rolled a long time ago. Why is it deemed ok to dehumanise and degrade only Black women in this way? Why?!?

This would never in a million years be tolerated and our alternative woman would have never been treated with such disrespect while men around her, used her dehumanisation to score points. It’s ironic it shows that ultimately she had the whip removed for clumsily speaking God’s honest truth.

I’m actually surprised they haven’t banned me yet on this topic tbh. You are completely right and it’s not to minimise what they face, but it is not the same experience, and we shouldn’t be forced to pretend otherwise.

LadyKenya · 13/03/2024 22:01

You are completely right and it’s not to minimise what they face, but it is not the same experience, and we shouldn’t be forced to pretend otherwise.

We have all seen the fallout for a certain woman who has spoken out on this exact thing. Our different lived experience, and treatment. The bloody irony of it all!!

LadyKenya · 13/03/2024 22:07

The difference is, that it is acceptable to be anti-black. Look at all those people making excuse, after excuse for that man, and his despicable diatribe. They are discussing racism on LBC right now.

They have been discussing it for the last 3 days.

Some of the callers have made me cry as they have reminded me of the shit treatment I've suffered over the years.

Oh and that racist has given the Tory party £15.2M

I just watched the video of Diane standing and sitting in Parliament.

I didn't realise she is 70 years old! What a magnificent woman Diane is.

The video clip of Diane standing and sitting is triggering, and symbolic, of all those times I have opened my mouth to speak in a meeting, and a white man has spoken over/ahead/instead of me.

The other MPs on seeing her being blatantly ignored and what was happening should all have stayed seated to force the Speakers hand.

I hear you. I am so sorry that some of the calls have been upsetting for you. The fact that our experiences of racism are so easily dismissed, or minimized by people who have never had to deal with it, is beyond frustrating.

The fact that Diane Abbott was completely ignored yesterday in the house is just another countless example of us being seen, but easily ignored.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 14/03/2024 16:23

Yes, they should.

What actually happened would have been inconceivable as fiction. I can’t find the words for what transpired in real life.

Moonshine5 · 14/03/2024 18:07

The Tories are openly racist in my view because it is not like they are hiding it at this point. It is there in the open to for everyone to see.
They use the right wing media to proliferate their populist agenda.
Rishi thinks he can keep spouting nonsense about being accepting and diverse lol. It's clear it's all about money. Rishi forgets that he was unelected and is only in his position because Johnson then Truss effed up - if they could have got rid of him they would.
ps. I cannot believe Diane Abbott was not given the opportunity to speak yesterday in the commons - the day it was reported a white man of privilege said he wanted to shoot her. He gave the Tories 10 million and they gave him NHS contracts - IT'S SHAMELESS.

MCOut · 14/03/2024 19:15

@Moonshine5

Rishi forgets that he was unelected and is only in his position because Johnson then Truss effed up - if they could have got rid of him they would.

Rishi is not stupid, he knows this. Why do you think he goes through such great pains to try and minimise the racism and Islamophobia of his compatriots? The primary value of POC Conservatives is to help provide legitimacy as the party goes increasingly more right. That’s why Samuel Kasumu left and Sayeeda Warsi is calling them out on it too.

Moonshine5 · 14/03/2024 20:07

There's a thread currently:
"To wonder why there's no BBC Panorama documentary into racism in the Tory party"
A poster is bashing Diane Abbott 3 lines in.

It's beyond belief.

If she rightly gets upset about this, then her anger will be weaponised against her.
