Hair breakage

Hi, I am looking for advice please.
My 14 year old mixed daughter has shoulder length type 3c hair. This week her hair has started breaking off her head and falling out in handfuls. In 3 days she has lost a huge amount of what seemed like otherwise healthy hair, from at this time just the top of her head.
She sleeps on a satin pillowcase, rarely straightens her hair, doesn’t tie back tightly or braid her hair and uses what seemed like appropriate hair products, in fact the only thing she has changed in the last year is to occasionally use an extra hold edge stay gel.
We have taken her to the doctors who have arranged blood tests to check deficiency levels. She is remarkably calm about this and we are talking about short hairstyle options should the rest of her continue to fall out.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
Thanks

I haven’t - but I can imagine how worried you must be about the medical cause. Hope you get an answer soon.

Short hair is incredibly stylish though, so I hope she won’t be at all concerned about that.

Mainly bumping for you …

Thanks. It's still coming out daily. The blood test is booked for tomorrow (earliest available).
My school loving daughter is now worried about attending school and being pointed out, mocked and bullied, add that to be worried about the cause of it. It's breaking my heart. 💔

Is there really such an unpleasant culture at her school? If so, you need a meeting with the relevant staff to let them know what’s happening and specifically ask them to exercise some control over how your daughter is treated by her peers.

I had thought 21st c children were all about care and support for one another?

Really, given all the changes and revelations apparently regularly hailed as heroism by schoolchildren it’s surprising that your daughter cannot expect the same for a health condition?

It's probably a deficiency/anaemia. Try not to worry and focus your dd on boosting nutrition and overall health (sleep, stress..).

What style does she wear her hair in? Mine use to break when it was in tight braids / cornrows etc. Hope she's okay x
