Help me decide where to move due to diversity

Hello fellow mums-

I would like some advice. I currently live in London with my 10 year old. However, I would like to move out of London. The issue is around my fear of racism towards him.

I have viewed houses in Derby ( Littleover and Mickleover) Derby centre seems diverse which is okay but the houses I have viewed are two bedrooms.

I have also seen 3 bedroom houses in Melton Mowbray which is in the outskirts of Leicester. I have not viewed these yet but I have checked the schools and it looks very white.

What is even more confusing is that I have seen a number of 3 bedroom houses in Pontefract and Wakefield both in Yorkshire but I am not sure if these areas are diverse.

I do not have family in any of these areas so I just want somewhere we can settle.

Work is fine as I am working from home alot. I would like the views of other people from the black community who either reside in these areas or know others who do and can advice me.

Thank you so much

I live in Hastings East Sussex. Was very white when I moved from London. Do was in white prep school where he experienced an episode of racism , kid suspended for day and none further during time. Hastings more diverse but still white, people open. Dont let fear prevent you exploring other locations not in a diverse environment.

You can view stats via census info I think. Gov website will have info anyway.

I hope you find a good new home.

Do you want urban? I'd consider Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Derby if so.

Bristol is quite diverse.
Good luck with your move!

It really depends on budget at the end of the day. My area is not that diverse but noticing more mixed families since the short time I have been here which is always encouraging. Have not experienced any racism and people generally quite friendly.

I think go to more white areas. ( I’m a rare Asian farmers daughter) .Whilst you might stick out you’re more likely to be treated as the individuals you are. There won’t be so many assumptions about where you live / associate with/ lifestyle. You’ll just fit in with the existing community for who you.
Unless you really need to be close to something from culture ie a mosque or something I wouldn’t worry.

Just wondering where you ended in the end and if you felt it diverse enough
