Trying to combat racism or not my fight

Hi
I thought hard about whether to post here or was not appropriate. I’m Asian origin. If it isn’t please let me know. I have not experienced much racism.

Was attending a social group and came across racism. Mainly directed at black people though would also apply wider.

I was trying to combat it. giving examples from our family (parents being turned down for promotion for years, the direct stuff not applying so much) they were honing in on black community maybe due to my background. why is there a Black Police Officers Association- wouldn’t allow a white one. Institutional racism doesn’t exist that type of thing. Then moved on completely different subject.
The BPA I explained as a mixture of supporting each other and campaigning and no need for a white group for the predominant group of society not experiencing it.

(I know black MN is diverse not one view). How would you have liked me to handle it?
Do you think I should have been quiet and moved away - not my fight? Or try to combat/educate and any other arguments I can use or things I could look at?
thank you

I'd argue this isn't really racism, this is more so a lack of understanding. I personally don't believe the effect you have will be signficant as they're not really your close friends and will most likely disregard your opinion.

Thanks. The underlying things were that there really isn’t really a need for any minority group support as racism isn’t really an issue an issue now. They didn’t believe passing over promotion still happens. I was also talking about history, bananas, pork left is Muslim lockers but is insidious and they were saying well it’s over now. We’ve just had Casey.

If I don’t say anything in a conversation directly on the subject rather than a comment when talking about a film or a say out I’m agreeing. I can’t control if it changes their mind or not. Maybe enough to say I disagree instead. Maybe it triggers me more than I realised. My parents were turned down for promotions, experienced racism by fans from the team they were supporting. I had 'Paki' slur and where are you realllly from.

Unfortunately some people always believe racism is over because they and/or those close to them are never the targets of it.

If you have the energy combat it as you are doing, however you are actually more helpful warning other black and brown people plus anyone else you think they will target of their views.
