Thoughts on Cheam, please?

We’re an interracial (I’m Black + he’s White) couple in our thirties, expecting our first DC and looking to move from central London to the suburbs. Usual reasons: more space, garden, nicer for kids, etc. Budget of circa £700K.

We have settled on Cheam, as it appears to tick all of our boxes. Plus, great schools. Have found a house we love. Was wondering if anyone that lived there or knew the area might give their opinion? Particularly about the Chatsworth road area.

General thoughts on living there + the diversity/general vibe would be super helpful.

Thank you!

Cheam is close to Sutton, and parts of Surrey where I work. I've never felt uncomfortable there.

Thank you. Do you like it and the surrounding areas?

I'm not black, but I did live near Cheam. It it quite a diverse area, though not as diverse as Croydon. It has good transport links, schools and nice parks (such as Nonsuch like a mini Richmond Park without deer or Cheam park which has a really good playground) nearby. Sutton is easy to get to for when you need a bigger shopping centre. There are some worldwide food shops in North Cheam and Sutton if that's of interest. There is also a huge Sainsbury's at North Cheam. There are some really nice soft plays locally, especially at Broncos in Worcester Park high street.

My sister in law lives in that area and hasn't had any problems at all. Diverse area - good schools, hospital & transport links to london are fab (northern line starts at Morden / tubes run late!)
Houses are big with potential - lots of extensions out and loft conversions.
Did you end up buying there? :)
