Chris Rock has been a douchbag to black women all years

I like Chris Rock every now and then but always felt he sometimes crossed the line. However, in the last couple days, his jokes about black women has left a bitter taste. So far there are lots of videos of him, making fan of Beyonce - making fun of her hair. Jada making fun of her hair. Oprah - he literally touch Oprah's hair just to make sure it was real even though she claimed do many times it was her hair. Claimed Oprahs hair as child made her look like slave. Michelle Obama - making fun of her hair. making fun of Tina Knowles for naming her daughter beyonce like tanifa - beyonce is her maiden name. I remember ears ago watching his show on the N word and different types of black people, and when a non black person has the right to use the N word against black person.
Belitle black women's had work by calling those who went to the black women's Milion woman march where Jada pinket spoke and he called the event a shoping spree. They should worry more about what the men are going through.
There is a Graham Norton skit going round where he picks black people from the audience and guesses what job they have. One woman said she was scientist and he just laughed her. The above is just the tip of the iceberg. There are just so many of his race gate keeping jokes I can't stand. Will Smith truly did a disservice becuase Chris rock will use his even bigger platform to antagonise more black women.

@ToiletPoster

I don't think it's specifically black women. He did coin what seems to be the racists' favourite joke ("I love black people, but I hate...."). I still don't think he deserved a slap for that particular joke.
I don't think he deserved the slap. However, since he hasn't a apologised to the black woman he has been making digs for years years. His brother, whom Will and Jada hired famous from a show they created came out calling the only person who hasn't said a word a b*tch. He can direct his anger towards Will who did the slapping. However, she is still the target for making Will slap his beloved brother.

Na So!

I dunno where he goes from here @debbrianna. Tony R. is a fool for joining in with the thinly disguised threats.

@emuloc

No, it is not good that he feels the need to take the rise out of black women, for cheap laughs. He has daughters, and will have to answer to them one day.

I've just seen that his ex-wife was Black, and daughters are 20 and 18. Clearly they are of an age to see, hear and understand his "jokes" about Black women. One can only imagine how these affect their self-esteem, and feelings towards Black people.

blackandgreen · 05/04/2022 09:54

I think he's done his best to affect their self esteem already @Starseeker. He's been working on showing them what an awful father he is for quite a while.

........during a set at the Comedy Cellar; he then confessed to three different types of women he cheated with: one famous, one semi-famous, and one “member of the retail class.” Ugh!

He tried to get out of paying any maintenance on divorce. Having lost that, one daughter is adopted ( and the paperwork messed up to that apparently) and he tried to avoid paying for her claiming she is not his true blood and so on. Horrible man.

He's an ex for a reason as they say on MN. He's bitter and messed up. Mysogynoir is his career because his ex wife stood up to him, in my opinion. I don't see he exhibits the same behaviour to non black women. He gets the white laughs if he sticks to denigrating his own, what with the big wahala when a black guy upsets a white woman.

The more I hear about him, the more I can't see any good when it comes to his attitude towards black women and girls.

I hope these young women thrive with their mother's love. For there isn't any from their father as I see it.

@Starseeking

He has. I can't stand Chris Rock, he's awful. A disgusting vile human being, reserving his most venomous sound bites for Black women.

However as much as I dislike Chris Rock, I do think Will Smith slapping him like that was stupid and unacceptable.

Totally agree I have never liked him - his “jokes” are racist and mysogynistic and not funny at all.

Always disliked him.

emuloc · 05/04/2022 10:16

He obviously has deep seated issues. It is sad.

kinshasa · 05/04/2022 10:29

By contrast in this I think Denzel Washington is the role model here.

Maggiethecat · 05/04/2022 12:51

@debbrianna - re WS doing a disservice- I would like to think that CR would reflect on his treatment of black women but I suspect that at the moment he’s more concerned about whether to take action against WS.
He says he’s processing things which I expect may involve taking legal advice. If that’s the case WS better be prepared to fork out big dollars.

I’ve focused more on WS in this sad episode. I think that his public family entanglement is causing an issue and he alluded to having to smile through the jokes. Reckon his pride has been very hurt and in the moment was probably trying to salvage some pride. I do question if it was his wife he was really defending.

His actions were wrong but I do have some sympathy for him. My sister on the other hand is cutting him no slack. She has always loved Will especially since her first born bears an uncanny resemblance to him.

But she called me up from NY the day after the slap just to tell me how egregious she found his actions and was of the firm view that he should have been hauled off the stage in handcuffs.

Opinions are very divided. I am disappointed that at his finest hour when he should have celebrated his success and shone the spotlight on the incredible Williams story he fell to the stereotype of the out of control black man.
