Please never touch my child’s hair
Please make sure your library contains picture books my kids can relate to
Please acknowledge different religious festivals
Please be aware of your own unconscious bias
Please deal with racism in an appropriate way

There are way more, but those are mine for now…

I'd like to add.

If you aren't sure about something then ask me, please don't just assume something. Always happy to talk things through when teachers are genuinely interested/concerned.

Check your curriculum to make it inclusive for all pupils throughout the year. It's really not that difficult.

Dear teacher,
Yes, dad reads to ds at home Hmm
No, ds will not be your go to gingerbread man
Yes, he is half scandinavian. There are black Scandinavian people.
Do not ever give him any stickers with monkeys on it.
See here, ds IS dysgraphic. He is not not writing becuase he is "making bad choices", "doesn't want to try" or is "lazy". 🤬

To the headteacher: I will never forgive the way you treated my son. You were so wrong about him, his dad and our family. 2 terms in a new school and he is thriving, despite you doing his best to crush him. You are a dangerous, warped individual who get pleasure from bullying (black and brown children). You nearly broke my son, hope you rot in hell.

QuickQuestionQueen · 03/04/2022 16:46

Do not tell me whether you think I am right or wrong about racism towards my child. Please.
Angry
If I come to you with a concern do me the courtesy of taking it seriously. Do not insult my intelligence by telling me I'm wrong before I've finished explaining the situation to you.

Tigertigertigertiger · 03/04/2022 16:53

I’d like to say
Thank you.

I am a white teacher in a predominantly white school. Can I just add, please don’t think you are “that” parent if you want to raise any issues.

And don’t think, as one parent said to me about a very valid complaint, that we’ll think you are over sensitive or playing the race card. It’s important to tell us,

TheBlackDarner · 03/04/2022 17:30

Thanks Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies appreciate it. To be clear, this is not a "good teacher" bashing thread.
We expect everyone to be like you. Sad to say, not everyone is Matilda.

If Miss F and Miss W and Miss W from a different class are looking in, I'd like to say that you are doing a great job. Our dc thrive on your lessons. I loved the way you did odd sock day. I got told all about how different we all are, and what we have in common too, (in a mainly white school - well done, great how you keep that as a theme through the year when needed ) Grin

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 03/04/2022 18:51

Also, please don’t teach about slavery during black history month, in fact maybe do away with black history month and embrace black history throughout the whole year

Yes to this one hundred per cent.

Lndnmummy · 03/04/2022 19:27

Yes!!!

GreyBeeplus3 · 14/02/2026 20:27

@OnceuponaRainbow18
Agree with you completely
Black people don't exist and just become obvious for only one month of the year you know
We've always been here
And Windrush was not the first time we'd ever set foot on english soil either........
