Resources for teaching teens about British Colonial history

Does anybody have any recommendations for resources (preferably tv series/documentaries or films) that I can use to teach my young teens about British colonial history/the British empire? Ideally resources where that history wasnt entirely approached from the perspective of the British (but would need to be in English or at least subtitled)?

This is in response to my realisation that KS3 history at their school skips seamlessly from the early days of the industrial revolution to world war I. Nothing to see here. Hmm

Andrea Levy's books are good. Small island may be suitable (haven't read it yet! It's on my to be read pile). And I'm pretty sure the bbc adapted it a few years ago.

The Long Song is one of my favourite books - loved the tv version too.

Black and British A Forgotten History presented by Davis Olusuga is very good and is currently on Iplayer. I find the bit where he discusses his own background really moving, and lots of the stuff covered (e.g. the founding of Sierra Leone) is not known much at all, let alone covered in KS3 history. I actually teach British imperialism to older students (as well as at KS3!) and there is a bit of a dearth of decent documentaries compared to some other periods.

Thank you. Those will give us something to get started with.
