Move out of London

Hello all, me and my family plan to return to the UK after living in Asia for the last five years, I am originally from London and I am trying to figure out where to live that is affordable, with good state primaries, which is ethnically diverse. We will return to the UK in June, so very late for primary applications, so I accept that we may not get our preferred choice for primary and will have to go with what is availiable. I am teacher, who works mostly online, so I am pretty flexible in terms of location, most of my family are around east london, I was initially considering outskirts of London like colchester, but I think Im becoming more open to the idea of moving away from London entirely, as the prices are ridiculous especially for what you can get. Just wanted to hear from any black families who have moved away from London, what has the experience been like ?

There is another thread on here tali about something v similar.

I don't know E London, in saying that I wouldn't class colchester as London at all!

I’m interested in this too. Just wondering where to go for more space, good schools etc but love the diversity of London and worry that we’ll miss that. What areas have you been considering?

Now it seems pretty much all of South prices have becoming very out of reach for average/middle income families- you could possibly consider the Midlands as there will be a high speed rail link between London and Birmingham apparently predicted for 2026 but that has also been controversial!

I know the Midlands quite well so places like Harbourne, Edgbaston, Bournville, Moseley, Kings Heath, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield are the best areas in and around the Birmingham. There are also other really nice pockets in the surrounding counties like Worcester, Bromsgrove, Malvern, Droitwich, Penn and Tettenhall in Wolverhampton, Warwick and Stratford. In terms of diversity very much a mixed bag but because of the proximity to Birmingham it wasn’t terrible in slot if the surrounding counties. I particularly love the South of Birmingham close to Lickey hills country park

NB: I grew up in South London but have spent the last 10 years in Midlands because of work.
