Cancel culture only truly affects black women

I have seen this being said a lot and I think with enough examples, it is true.
The support JK Rawling has received has been great outside of those targeting her.

To wish the same was offered to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie when she spoke out. Too many black women have been canceled and it seems to affect them straight away compared to other celebrities. So many influencers and celebrities who have been canceled and they are still getting deals, turn it into a career. The same is not afforded to black women, unfortunately.

I have put down to race and specifically Misogynoir.

You are right OP.

As much as people rage against cancel culture rarely has it completely destroyed a white person's career except in the case of Charlie Sheen, Weinstein etc.

JK Rowling has received an outpouring of support. Chimamanda's comments in context to her upbringing and African perspective - one can argue there is a valid discussion and point to be made about male privilege- not everything can be seen through a purely Western lense.

Cancel culture started by Black Twitter was to stop us wasting our economic power with brands and people who were not invested in us as a community. The reasoning being there is power behind economic penalties as most people and companies will not change unless it affects their bottom line. I wholly support cancel culture in that sense. My money will not be knowingly spent on people and brands who dehumanise, disrespect or profit off black people. I applaud the move towards shopping from black businesses. But unfortunately it seems to have hurt black women more than any other group.

Hello! There are many great examples of where white creators or celebrities have been “cancelled” but got their careers back. OP I completely stand with you, and you and Dastardlythefriendlymutt made excellent points and I wish to add some more.

One example of where a celebrity was “cancelled” but their career wasn’t affected at all was Logan Paul. Explicit warning, mentions of suicide. He is a famous youtuber with just over 20milliom subscribers. In 2017, December 31st Logan Paul uploaded a video to his youtube channel. The video featured him and his friends walking into a restricted area of one of Japan’s suicide forest. He walked around with his vlog camera in tow, and found the body of someone who hung themselves in the forest. He proceeded to point the camera at said body and laughed. They were also going to camp in the forest. After the video was uploaded he was heavily critiqued.

Many celebrities and YouTubers called him out and said he was a bad person. It received media coverage also. He was removed from YouTubers partner program. This was giving him more expensive ads so he received more money. He was going to star in an upcoming film by YouTube, but they delayed it. He released a notes app Twitter apology. Later on he released a 3 minute video apologising to Twitter.

In the notes app he never apologised to the family nor the victim nor his fan base.

He’s a white male and his career wasn’t affected in the slightest. The movie was released 3 months later. He still makes videos. His career wasn’t impacted. He gained subscribers.

So, yes. OP is correct. I cannot think of any black creators right now I am sorry, but I agree 100% with OP.

I think JK Rowling is one of the few people too big and rich to cancel. Plus she is a writer so not dependent on people hiring her like actors etc
I don't argue that black people, like with everything else it seems , are disproportionally affected but tons of white people are cancelled. Charlie Sheen etc has no career at all anymore

Cancel culture affects all ethnicities. The people who are reported to survive it are usually just rich enough. The rest sink without trace regardless of skin colour.
