Dc has 4a/ 4b hair.

I usually braid it with added hair so it lasts a few weeks.
Recently been leaving it more natural/ twists.

I use a combination of Cantu/ Ors Olive Oil products.

However I've recently noticed that hair is being lost at the far back left side of dc's head.
It can't be due to hairstyles as it's only one side.
Potentially could be from breastfeeding during the night as dc always sleeps to the right of me. We use to alternate.

Any suggestions?

I've been looking for a silk durag but can't find any!
Can't use a silk pillowcase as dc doesn't sleep with one.

I stood at the Pak counter ready to pay for £200 worth of hair extensions.
The staff ignored me even though I was right in front of them.
You get treated like a shoplifter by default or leered at.
I wouldn't take such appalling customer service from anywhere else.
So I haven't set foot in there for five years.

Another one for avoiding Paks here! I moved to Essex and used to stock up when I visited my mum in north London, but a Nigerian woman opened a shop here and sells most of what I want. I pay her more, but I rather like not being followed around as I shop in a black hair store 🙃

Everything I can't buy from her, I try to find an alternative from an independent business online. It's easy enough nowadays Smile

I would give is to readjust What the concept of ‘neat hair’ is.

Currently doing this and dealing with the negative comments of "uncombed hair".

You sound like you have a brilliant ethos.

I remember sleeping sitting up to preserve a hairstyle as a tween/teen hell even in my 20s and being told "beauty is pain" to get through the relaxer (I banished relaxer as soon as I could at 18 - school insisted our hair was straight if it was down - can you imagine that happening now? Progress I guess).

Do share the Essex store you shop at. I honestly wouldn't mind trying it esp as its black- owned with none of that being followed around mess. I prefer shopping in person when it comes to hair products. Online has been a hit and miss for me

@Inpensity would you be happy to share details of the british products you like?

I so relate around the criticism of hair in its less tampered with state, more from black female colleagues believing it to relate to my having a white parent and less contact with black relatives. Interesting that it’s an accusation levelled at others too.

@PatricksRum

And yes to the tights!

I call it the robber look because dc robs my boobs

I miss my days of the robber look! Smile I usually sleep with a silk head scarf or pillow now.

I would say use aunt jackie. The green leave in conditioner with another oil that you like to seal in the moisture. The best for detangling. I used to love cantu but it just does not do what you want it to. The coconut oil with the thin top is the worst. It dries the fuck out.

creativecringe · 16/09/2020 23:46

Silk durags cheaply from Aliexpress.

BAYouTFall · 16/09/2020 23:46

@Dastardlythefriendlymutt

Yeah it's a no for me on Paks. Your DD has lovely hair. (And I always have a pair of tights on hand, the bonnets seem to slip off me but I'm probably not buying the right ones).

My DS has 4c hair. It is really soft but gets quite dry. I'm struggling to find a good oil/moisturiser.

Any suggestions?

The Jamaican black castor oil seems to weigh his hair down.

He is still patchy in the back, from sleeping on his back but it's starting growing back. I have a silk pillowcase for his cot but that's redundant as he also usually sleeps with me 😂.

My DD has dry hair and soo much of it! I’ve used many different products but I’ve now settled with Taliah Waahjid, for children style and shine & easy Herbal comb-out it leaves her hair really soft. I also use some Aunt Jackies products on her hair.

I will try that BayouTfall. Thank you

Nefelibata86 · 17/09/2020 09:15

@inpensity thanks for the recommend , will look into it

PatricksRum · 18/09/2020 08:06

Surprised to see so many here don't like Paks.
I've always had great service. Maybe because I go in for one thing and come out with a pram full

Thanks for all the detailed comments, really helpful Smile

Personally I try to buy from a black owned business for my hair care needs first. My sister goes to Afro hair & Beauty on West Green Road. The lady who owns it, is nice and helpful.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 18/09/2020 10:00

I've never had good service at Paks even if I am buying £500+ worth of product. I feel more welcome at black owned beauty shops. I don't get followed around either.

PatricksRum · 18/09/2020 12:01

I do know what you mean about the staff placed around the aisles, kinda annoying.

I do prefer to buy from independent, black businesses. I just don't know of any.

I second Afro hair and beauty on west green road. Prices are slightly higher but worth it for the peace of mind
