Curry goat booster

Has anyone used this?

I came across it earlier as my curry goat is... questionable shall we say.

I’m thinking to order it for the slow cooker.

Ooooo I haven't heard of this.

Is it only available in the US?
I'm wondering if theirs would taste different to the ones we make here.

Phoenix21 · 16/09/2020 11:02

Sunlandcaribbean.co.uk are selling it.

Due to the faff of actually buying goat, I wondered if anyone had used it before I travel out to get some.

Plus the slow cooker issue - would it be ok in it. Last time I tried it was inedible.

(well actually we are isolating just now due to a toddler throwing a temp and test fiasco).

I'm tempted to try some.

Apparently the price is hiked, you usually get 12 in a pack.

Can I ask which recipe you follow for Curry Goat?

I'm interested in a rice & peas booster as it were. Mine never tastes as good as the takeaway!

@Phoenix21 Something about slow cookers, unless you get the ratio right, sometimes the food turns out watery thus diluting the seasoning and flavouring. Slow cooker or not, I tend to be heavy handed with spices even beyond what a recipe calls for.

What recipe are you using? If you show us, we might be able to help you tweak it. Also, are you toasting the spices in the oil first or no?

SweetGrapes · 16/09/2020 14:47

I love this recipe: myheartbeets.com/goat-curry-in-a-hurry-instant-pot-recipe/

and order the meat from here - www.tariqhalalmeats.com/

Yumm... I think that's what I'm having this weekend. Smile

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 16/09/2020 15:51

I tend to avoid adding a lot of liquid with a slow cooker..just 1/4 to half of what you would normally add as it doesn't cook off.

I will be trying this mix. And any recipe suggestions for curry goat. Is this cheating?

vonny63 · 16/09/2020 19:06

Currygoat in a slow cooker is a definite no no here.
Not sure what recipe you are using and if you are marinating the meat overnight.
The best curry goat is in the Dutch pot.

This is a good recipe:

Toast spices Blush I don’t even brown meat for the slow cooker.

I’m determined that slow cooking = chuck in, on, then return a few hrs later Grin clearly the SC disagrees at times.

I tried to make curried pork a few months back, it was awful. DH Hmm at me and chucked it in the Dutch pot which saved it.

I do marinate overnight at least, but I’m also banned from scotch bonnet after an ‘incident’.

Thanks for those recipes. I normally just do a search then choose whichever has a nice pic.

I can cook I promise!

Hmm, this seems like 'goat curry' but not 'curry goat'!
JingsMahBucket · 16/09/2020 23:39

@Phoenix21 you don’t brown the meat?! GIRL, you’ve got to start!! SMH.

Just kidding. :) I brown it in sugar and oil, take the meat out the pot then brown the onions/aromatics. After that add more of the spices, mix them up in the onions, etc and let them brown and cook. (For other recipes like Trini cook up rice, you might tomato paste here too to brown.)

Add the meat back into the pot and mix this together. Then you add you water and go from there. Make sure the water was in the bowl that you marinated the meat in because that has all the flavour.

Can I just say how good it felt to write that in a space where people understand?? Thank you again so much @PatricksRum!! 🥰

I've made Curry goat in the slow cooker once and it was delicious. Oxtail too.

Details please!!

@JingsMahBucket I’m determined that my slow cooker does ALL the cooking. If it had arms I’d have it chop the onions. I’m definitely cutting off my nose to spite my face 🤣🤣🤣

I’d say that 90% of my SC meals are fine.

Thanks for the meat delivery link - I’ll definitely be using that and will next make goat in the Dutch pot. Or produce it via the takeaway...

I need me a good dutch pot. All this talk and I don't yet have a seasoned pot to cook it in. Curry goat is all about the dutch pot for me. That's probably why I've not yet tried to cook it (I actually make curried lamb instead).

You're welcome Jings

But I just wanted to check, what's best to accompany curry goat? Rice and beans or rice and garden pea?

I have too. Served for my DS christening no complaints.
DeegeeDee · 17/09/2020 20:12

Nooooo @PatricksRum thats too funny Smile. I like people trying but my hackles do rise when someone says beans or garden peas. I do have to correct them.

DeegeeDee · 17/09/2020 20:13

"yes I know technically it's beans but that's not the name of the recipe"

C130 · 18/09/2020 20:12

Yummy all this sounds good. I really need to make some oxtail with butterbeans soon, it has been too long.

You can get 3 packs of that on ebay.co.UK for £5.99 Inc p&p

We buy ours at the Indian grocery shop for about £1.75 a pack. I've also bought Trini Curry goat or duck powder there

They also sell a Goat Soup Mannish water spice mix which we've not had yet. (Same Brand)

Both feature dried garlic, herbs and flavour enhancements
