We finally got our shiny new section!

Welcome everyone.

I thought we could start by adding a few "rules."

• No asking others to justify their experiences.

• No tone policing

• No unfounded racism accusations. Sharing our perspectives is different to being racist

• No excusing racism

• No whataboutery

I don't have kids, can't remember what I googled to initially flend up on mumsnet but now I normally just lurk in AIBU. This space is definitely a positive as so many threads are entertaining/interesting but typically lack a black perspective. Congratulations.

Serious question, sorry for my ignorance in advance. Do you need to be black to contribute? I’m South East Asian.

No, anyone can read and post. You don’t have to be black, but just be able to relate to the issues here. For example, you may be a black, Asian or white hairdresser, who is able to advise on black hair care.

Fortunately, no one asks you to prove your colour and only if you pass, are you able to enter. It’s open to all.

Out of interest, do threads from Black Mumsnetters show up in Active?

Just wondering whether other MNers are likely to come across them by chance, or whether they will need to seek them out.

Just wondering whether other MNers are likely to come across them by chance, or whether they will need to seek them out.

They show in 'trending' just as any other forum thread would.

I can’t believe it happened so quickly @PatricksRum you were amazing putting up with all the nonsense and soldiering on.

I really hope it’s a success and gets lots of traffic.

• Having a black cat or cousin does not qualify you to be racist about black people.

• The word black is not negative. It's ok to use the word black people.

• don't assume all black people are the same.

• please don't colonise the space and turn into something that it's not.

• It will be lovely for words/expressions and language used to Express feeling, understanding racial situations, racism is colonised.

• do not weaponise our words such as woke/karen or intersectionality sometimes expanding to AAVE or black British slangs and use it for your own gain. Expanding it beyond black women and people changes it's meaning. It becomes another colonised space and weapon against black people to sometimes silence discussions.

Sad thing. There is debate about blacks not being adopted in europe and America. Low percentage.
