Hi

Would welcome thoughts/experiences to help me decide if this is a good idea. I am based in Greenwich SE London and will be giving birth at King's College hospital. EDD is 15 May 2010.

yes, great idea.

(I am a Doula)

seriously, if you feel that you and your partner could benefit from some support, then yes, go for it.

Thank you . would be great if you could give me a bit more of an idea re: what birth/postnatal doulas actually do. The only info I have so far seems a bit vague. It is my second child (DS will be 3 years old at the birth).

hi lou start by looking

here doula uk

and

nurturing birth here

Is there any particular reason you would like to have the extra support this time around?

How was ds's birth? How does your dh feel about an extra person involved?

A doula will come to your home throughout your pragnancy and get to know you and your family, she will offer emotional and practical support in all areas, if she doesn't know the answer, she will have to back up from colleagues to find it for you. She will support you and dh in your choices and wishes for your pregnancy and labour.

she will come with you and do whatever you need to support you to a positive birthing experience. She will stay with you until you are settled and have fed your new baby.

Postnataly, she will come to your home and support you in the early days/weeks become a family unit, whether that's playing/distracting your older child, helping you get into a routine of some kind or simply making sure you and dh eat.

Meet a few doulas and ask as many questions as you like, cost can vary from Kent/se borders, £400 ish to more into london, significantly more than thet.

Any more info, you can mail me at

hope that's helped.
