Surprise Pregnancy

ds1 is 7 1/2 months and i've just discovered i'm pregnant again. somewhat overwhelmed and feel like its not fair on ds, that he should have had his little world to himself for another while instead of having a little brother or sister to contend with at the tender age of 15 months. Anyone been there, any thoughts how to minimise negative impact?

i've got five sisters-there's 14 months between 1st and 2nd then 13mths between the 2nd and 3rd-they played together from the get go and are still really close-i am sure you will be fine.
And amazingly big congratulations to you.

I have 4 dc's and my last 2 are 15m apart. It was hard work for the first couple of months but gets easier all the time and DD didn't know any different really, she adores her little brother. The shock here is that I have recently found out I am completely totally surprisingly pregnant with #5

Huge congrats to you though, honestly you'll all be fine

Come and hold my hand sillynoodle! I am 5 weeks pregnant after a night of passion with my other half and a (failed) morning after pill... my son is 8 weeks old. You do the Maths.

I wholly empathise with your shock and worry. As EasyEggs says, I console myself with the fact that neither of them will ever have known any different. And that at least all the nappy-changing and breastfeeding will be out of the way all at once.

My first 2 DCs are 16 months apart. I won't say it wasn't a lot of work at the time, but they are now very close. Its true, DD1 did not have much of a chance to be an only child before her little brother came along, but they don't know the difference! They do everything together! I am especially grateful for their closeness, since my DS1 is very shy, and his sister (who is far from) helps him along when they are away from us (at camps, etc). Try not to worry and enjoy the fact that when they are a little older, there will be less pressure on you to keep them entertained!

congratualtions, there is 15months between me and my brother and I an honestly say its great - yes we fought like cat and dog but we are really close (and still are) I don't remember life without him I aimed for the same age gap between my dc's and got a 19mo gap between ds1 & ds2 and now having a 18mo gap between ds2 and dc3 (due June)

Having a sibling at a young age can be great, try not to think of it having a negative impact on your ds as that will only make you feel guilty and reflect on the way you deal with it, look for all the positives - as belgiunbun said there are loads of threads about this if you need inspiration x
