Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lauren, sweeps vary in discomfort depending on who is doing it. Really it comes down to the experience of the mw and the length of her fingers. Seriously.

Personally speaking I think this country is currently induction mad, and sweeps are just the latest fashion. They did not do them when I had my first in the 1980s. I think sweeps run the risk of introducing infections and should be avoided unless a woman is literally on the brink of labour (eg like last week when I was sort of mid-labour and it had stalled). I think internals are also pretty unnecessary most of the time and also risk introducing infection. But it's up to the individual whether she wants all this or not.

surprisenumber3 · 22/04/2009 22:54

Lauren, mine really hurt, but my cervix is usually hard to find anyway (from previous experience with smears etc). I have had friends who felt no pain at all to others who had slight discomfort to ones who felt like me.

My MW only did it last week because I had been to LW and was told I was in slow labour and then it had all stopped, she initially examined me to see if I was dilated and then said 'shall I give things a stir?' and I said 'ooh yes please!!'.

I am pretty sure I shall have to be induced soon as I have had pre-eclampsia, IUGR, low amniotic fluid and a failing placenta pre-term in previous pregnancy and obviously don't want to run the risk of that again! In some ways, now that I am a week overdue, I feel she would be safer out than in, but we shall see was MW says tomorrow.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/04/2009 00:03

Suprise - are you hoping to be induced or would you like to go longer? Hope you get what you want

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 00:26

hey guys
nutty I cant believe they're keeping you waiting so long. Sending you huge hugs, you poor thing, you must be so pissed off!
Well I had a lovely day with DP, DS and my mum. I treated them to a lovely lunch at the restaurant my best friend works at, so that was lovely and great to see her too.
Then DP and I took DS to feed the ducks at the loch a couple of miles away. There were loads of tiny baby ducks they were the cutest wee things (I was so jealous of their mummy for having all her babies out!)
Since we got home at 6.30 I've had bloody sore contractions, but not regular or painful enough to get my hopes up. As usual, my body is having a false alarm. GRRR!!
They're ranging from every 8 mins to every 15 mins. Mostly around the 11 minute mark. That's shite as far as I'm concerned. There's just no sign of them getting stronger or more frequent.
Sorry to moan
Anyway I'm supposed to be going in tomorrow for induction anyway. I have to phone at 8am to see if they're ok for me to go in yet. Might end up like nutty, waiting for ages.
I just really really wanted to go naturally, but hey, I've tried, my body is trying to kick start things, maybe it just needs a wee push to get going properly (I sound like mum's old diesel car!)

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 00:40

Right I'm going to head off to bed now, have to be up early in the morning. This is probably my last post before the baby comes (I'm trying to stay positive that there'll be space for me in the morning)
I'll text soon2be if I can, to update you all.
Love and hugs, wish me luck (really dont want drip) and wish me strength (I'm secretly scared)
xxx

conkertree · 23/04/2009 02:17

evening/morning everyone. anyone up doing a feed? congratulations to all who''ve had babies in the last few days.

have been off for a few days as my mum stayed down to help with ds which was great. have felt slightly undder pressure to actually produce a baby now but not too badly.

anyway, painful contractions have woken me up so have turned contraction master on and will see what happens. really really hope ds stays asleep tonight unlike the last few nights.

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 06:47

hiya conker are you still around?
I can't sleep either

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:21

hi trista - am back.

managed to sleep a bit but they are coming a bit faster and harder now so think i will time then again (stopped when they didnt seem to be redular).

How are you feeling? Just waiting for the call now is it?

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:23

or have your contractions got more regular?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/04/2009 07:23

morning!

trista - good luck today!

conker - how are you feeling now?

right so you know that really constipated stomach ache feeling...what does that mean? been feeling sore since about 5ish. and quite a bit yesterday though managed to sleep last night. it's probably just wishful thinking. maybe i just need to poo.

taking DS to gymnastics today. (our ONE outing this week!) he's very excited to leave the house, poor kid. actually i'm pretty excited myself! he gets to runs around for an hour, i get some costa coffee. what more could i want? (labour maybe,,,,)

then this afternoon i have my MW appointment. DH is (apparently, hopefully) coming home early so he can drive me. i don't want a repeat of last week. what would happen if my BP was up still and there was still trace protein in my urine? would i have to go back to the hospital?

anyway, i hope everyone is good. surely there must be babies today??

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/04/2009 07:25

is contractionmaster going to be busy today?
this starting and stopping malarky is a pain in the arse.

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:26

ok purple - i love all the arpil ladies but we have to make a deal here - we cant be in labour at exactly the same time and both get the pool, so if I promise to be out by say late afternoon, can you promise to hold off till then?

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 07:27

woohoo just had a shower, had to stop for moooooing a load of times.
Race ya conker!!!
Ha ha middle finger up to your induction, consultants!!!!!

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:28

i know - the stopping and starting is a nightmare. was convinced that once i went back to sleep i would wake up and they would have gone but so far they still seem to be going.

mum has been such a help being here and knows perfectly well that the timing is not really at all under my control, but i still feel slightly uinder pressure to produce something.

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:30

great trista - so many people seem to start themselves just before an induction - wonder if subconsciously your body just gets on with it sometimes when you have that date in your head,

how fast are they coming? my tens machine is on its third setting on the first programme so still not mooing stage by any means but the odd one that makes me stop typing.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/04/2009 07:32

conker - the pool is yours my friend!

frekkles · 23/04/2009 07:39

nada. feel a bit sick, still got a dicky tummy, still fed up and still getting sporadic tightenings but meh.....

so off to work with me!

good luck ladies, hope you beat the induction trista x

and purple and monkey, birthing pools at dawn eh?

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 07:43

coming every 3-5 mins, so far

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:44

lol purple - will need to still wait and see if this is it, but if it isnt, it would surprise me a lot.

hope we both get the pool (at different times obviously)

conkertree · 23/04/2009 07:46

great trista - sounds promising

tristaleejac · 23/04/2009 07:46

oh god that one lasted for ages

LaurenIsMoreThanReadyToPop61 · 23/04/2009 07:59

hey girls you okay contractions everywhere!! not me..you lot lol

MW coming for sweep this morning, i thought baby was coming last night, obviously i was wrong lol, keep breathing trista x

BabyBolat · 23/04/2009 08:33

oooh trista!!! yay!!! How exciting - have you phoned you MW? Will you not have to go to hospital to have it now???

It's true I think the body sometimes does know to avoid the induction method or meet certain times! I was due for induction on the wednesday and I had asked to be induced on the Monday as my dad was going away for 10 days on the wednesday but they said no and I was devastated he wouldn't get to see the baby for almost 2 weeks - then on the Friday before it all kicked off so he got to see kara lots before he left!!

My Little boy is driving me crazy this morning - he is so tired but fighting sleep and getting himself all irate in the process, he'll go to sleep on me, I'll put him down, 10 minutes later the screaming begins... he's normally such a placid little boy as well....

No more news from Nutts... I'd be furious - I was angry enough when they left me over night let alone 2 days especially when there is a risk of cord prolapse etc!

What is everyone up to today?

Carameli · 23/04/2009 09:19

hello all, nothing happening with me, still hanging on in there. But I tell you I will scream at the next person who tells me I look so neat for someone due to give birth next week, it still feels so heavy walking around no matter what I look like. ok rant over, just getting a bit fed up with everybody on the school playground looking shocked when I say I am due next Tues.

All the children were dressed in red and white today, made the playground look so colourful(usually navy).
We(parents) have a St Georges cream tea at school this afternoon to celebrate today so should be lovely weather for it.
Apart from that I am going to seal some more grout to make it waterproof, sounds more complicated than it is. Basically just painting the stuff on the grout with a small paintbrush. Keep hoping it might get things moving a bit.

Carameli · 23/04/2009 09:20

good luck with the sweep this morning Lauren.
