Private scans

Have any of you gone for private scans after your first nhs scan just so you could spend more time finding the hearbeat and generally have more time to look at the baby/have a better picture?

I had my first scan today and although it was great to see that there is actually a baby in there I'm a bit disappointed that it was all over in less than 10 minutes, the sonographer went so fast over the hearbeat I didn't even see it.

I just had a quick look at private scans on the net and I'm worried that it might be too early (13w) to justify the cost (around £100) and that we may not get any better pictures?
It would be great to know someone who's done it and what they thought.

I had one when our 20 week scan didn't tell us the gender- I needed to know so I could prepare- and I'm definitely glad I did, as it has taken me over 10 weeks to get used to it!
It lasted about 20 mins, and we got a DVD of baby wriggling around, and 5 scan photos. Was £85.
There were no concerns for us over health of baby though- the nhs scan was fine in that regard.

I would leave it a while though- much more fun once they're 20 weeks and look like a real little person!
