First scan questions

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm wondering how it goes, specifically what to wear. Do you undress there or can you keep your bottoms on?

Also are there any questions you wish you'd asked while you were there?
Even though I have loads of pregnancy symptoms and no bleeding I'm so worried about wether there is actually a baby in there, with a heartbeat, that I can't think of anything to ask.

Your first scan is always worrying! Assuming it's a 12 week scan, just wear something that means they have good access to your bump - they will use gel and scan all around your bump.

You don't really have to ask anything, they should tell you if the scan dates match your own dates.

Good luck.

You don't normally have to undress, just undo the top button of jeans/skirt/trousers so the sonographer can scan just above your bikini line.

How far along are you? It's normal to be nervous before your first scan, I did, partly because I didn't really have any symptoms and because you can't feel a baby kicking or anything, it's hard to believe there's anything in there. I was 12 weeks at my first scan and I was absolutely amazed at seeing an almost fully formed (allbeit tiny) person inside me!

I can't remember thinking of any questions I wished I'd asked as the sonographer I had was so thorough and brilliant. She gave me my nuchal score straight away which was 1:1000 which I was v happy with as I was 36.

It's normal to worry about there not being a baby in there - I know I did!

I wore elasticated waist trousers (maternity ones as I was fairly big at that stage even though it was my first) and just pushed them down a bit. You don't need to undress.

I didn't ask anything but the sonographer pointed things out - that's the heartbeat, etc.

Thanks for your answers.
I'm 13+1, the scan is at 13+3 so not long to go now.
I know I worry too much about stuff in general so I can usually reason with myself.
Doesn't stop me waking up in cold sweats tho.
I'll ask my midwife about that when I meet her after the scan actually, maybe she's got tips on relaxing.

My mw recommended some pregnancy yoga for relaxation as I was mrs neurotic when I was pg the first time Was rather nice actually, lots of deep breathing, plus it helped my back which is as weak as a newborn's.

Good idea, they have yoga pretty much everyday at my local gym, I remember the instructor was pregnant about 3 months ago. they probably have a new one now I'll have to check it out!
