Mums groups in N1

Hello, I am new to posting messages! I have a 15 week old son and I am looking to belatedly join a mums group. My dad died the month before DS was born and was ill for most of my pregnancy, so I was unable to go to any pre natal classes or join NCT etc. I found the first few weeks of motherhood very tough and feel like I am coming out the end of a very long tunnel!

Now feeling much more sociable and looking for things to do with DS locally. I already go to baby massage but would like to do more and get to know some local mums. Can anyone out there help?!

Hey, it is so hard and made even harder by your experience - I am sorry for that.
I had a difficult time after ds (now 20 months) due to illness and by the time I could get out felt like everyone had already met and made their cliques. But is a case of being brave getting out there and then asking the lady next to you in baby ..... whatever out for a herbal tea.
Not sure about N1 but I am N7 and sure the same thing applies. I found the Children's centres a really good place to start, my closest are Paradise and Willows and they informed me of all the groups running in those areas icluding breastfeeding groups etc. I tended to go to the drop in groups, speaking of which there is a loveley postnatal drop in group at paradise that runs on friday afternoons a large part of which is baby massage - we both loved it, wonderful lady runs it who will be able to point you in the right direction for other groups - has a table full of leaflets.
Also another wonderful resource and reason to leave the house was the library - we attended baby bounce with my DS 0-1 at Archway, central and John Barnes and still attend 0-5 at central library. i think all the libraries do one - might not be called baby bounce though!
Also the cinemas do baby cinema which is lovely.
I found just started seeing some of the same faces at different things.

Here is a LINK for the children's centres, there is a map at the end:
Hope this helps a litlle.

If you join your local surestart, they'll be able to give you details of local mother and baby groups whcih you can go to. Also get in touch with local council (Hackney or Highbury & Islington) and they'll send you details of local children centres, playgroups etc. It is abit daunting but you, and your baby, will feel better for getting out and about. Baby swimming is another lovely thing to do from around that age - Aquababies run classes across london so maybe look at their website. I think at Highbury Corner they do buggyfit classes for mum &baby (pushymothers I think)- did those in Hampstead Heath when had DS and made quite a few friends that way. Babies are a great way to meet new friends so while daunting it does get easier...

I met my NCT mum friends through a postnatal picnic in Clissold Park (ie for mums who had already had babies). Didn't do classes at all.
