hello to all, been a member for a while but only just got computer up and running again. would love to hear from others due same time.
here's the gossip about me...currently pregnant with 2nd child, now 36+5. have DD who is 2 and has just decided to become a terrible 2! has decided that doesn't like babies, stamped on my friends 6 week olds head-luckily not hard, everytime see friends babies or 5 month old cousin shouts wake up to them when their sleeping. oh dear. with DD ended up having her at 36 weeks due to pre eclampsia. being closely monitored this time as she was small. Bp grand this time. feels weird still being pregnant as really thought would have problems this time, but so far so good. just got back from hospital as hadn't felt babe move today and moment they put me on heart monitor moved loads! would be lovely to hear from anyone. was going to try and make this thread witty and interesting but far too tired after entertaining DD all day.

hi all, is anyone planning to bottle feed as opposed to breast? im struggling to find anyone to chat to about this...

milkbeard · 30/08/2008 21:10

naturalblonde, very glad pain gone, every new ache and pain scary as you think is babe ok, am i in labour. just relised your due 17th like me, will race you to be first. had dd at royal victoria infirmary in newcastle, excellent and going there again. has a rep for being good but very busy, just hoping when i turn up its quiet and they have enough midwives on. nice cos 2 of my best friends midwives there and one looked after me last time so hoping same will happen this time but will just be luck of draw i guess! lovely you had nice midwife last time, it really makes a difference doesn't it

notsoslimnow what would you like to know bout bottle feeding? i had loads of problems with bf last time and ended up bottle feeeding dd, going to try bf this time but more than happy to go to bottles if needs be. have brought new teats for exsisting bottles and cheating with a few cartons of ready made formula. let me know what you need to know and will try and help as much as i can x

Notsoslimnow I am intending to bottle feed from day 1. I tried breast feeding my dd but gave up after day 3 when I was just dreading her waking up and needing to be fed again. I couldn't get on with it and I had a difficult and traumatic labour so just wasn't up to persevering. To be honest I felt it really spoiled the first few days with my baby so this time round I am not even going there. I feel soooo much happier knowing it will be formula from the off. There are lots of pro's to formula feeding but unfortunately a lot of breast-feeding propaganda to make you feel guilty!

notsoslimnow i agree with starlight that cos your worrying bout it your going to be a truely fab mummy

i really couldn't get my head around whole making up feeds. we used ready made cartons for quite a while (down side cost bloody fortune) i use to just give dd milk at room temp so straight out of carton, would put remaining milk in carton in fridge-used sma and small carton was fine opened in frige for 24 hours and large for 48. used to just pour what i needed into bottle and warm it up in hot water. as time went on and bank balance started to look very bad went onto powder. use to fill bottles up with boiling water, then once cooled store in fridge and when i needed them heat them up in boiling water (had flask for this at night time) then had powder measured into special pot. think sometimes water not always hot enough but would shake it really well and dd was fine. SMA have little bottles of ready made formula out now which would be enough for new born but expensive but might be worth getting for first few days so you had back up plan. hope this helps x

yes, i think im being really silly worrying about this all the time,it would be easier if my midwife was a bit more helpfull with me plus i cant ask friends as they all bf and i get very disapproving looks.however you are right i have been contstantly thinking about whether baby will be too hot/cold....i now have a thermometer in virtually every room in the house!!! my newest thing is how can he tell me if he is uncomfy in his basket and cant move!!! anyway my list is endless hopefully ill change once he arrives and i have less time to think and have to just get on with it.but this formula thing worries me as im so scared ill make a mistake and do it all wrong for him! im also petrified ill spill hot water near him.. i think i may actually take the advice of just using ready made stuff for a few weeks til i get my confidence with it all.x
