Well that was cutting it a bit fine...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MelT76 · 14/08/2008 20:39

oh duh!

potxola · 14/08/2008 20:47

jearund I have asked a bit more and the best dosage for recovering after a C-section is:
ARNICA (200c) for trauma, swelling etc. 4 times a day for 3 days then 3 times a day for four days.

Some homeopaths told me to take one tablet the morning of the surgery.
I have to go to the hospital the day before for the pre op and I would ask the anesthetist about that, because I know as well about the fasting and I am not sur about it.
By the way I spoke to another mum this morning who took arnica as well and highly recommends it.

jearund · 14/08/2008 21:04

Thanks Potxola let me know what the anesthetist says if you remember after all the excitement of meeting Lorea! I still have 4 1/2 weeks until it's my turn! I did order 200c as I remembered you said that before.

jearund · 14/08/2008 21:15

Another c-section question: (TMI alert!) - last time I was already wearing a pad because my waters had broken and I don't remember what happened after that. With an elective one, do they take off your knickers to perform the op? I guess they must to put the catheter in? When does the bleeding start? Will they put my knickers back on and a pad? I guess I won't feel anything at first because of the spinal block so how would I know?

What an embarrassing question!

meglet · 14/08/2008 21:31

jearund knickers off, they put in a catheter and I had a morphine suppository . The doc said they would pop one in once they were done, so I asked them if they had done it afterwards and he said of course they had. Like I was going to feel it . It makes me go all squeamish thinking someone put something in my bottom while I was awake and I never felt it .

So ladylike!

meglet · 14/08/2008 21:32

and they put the comfy mesh knickers and a pad on me.

jearund · 14/08/2008 21:44

Thanks Meglet so I can relax about that one then! Re the squeamish bit.....I'd much rather NOT feel them doing it!

meglet · 14/08/2008 21:47

LOL. .

mellabella · 14/08/2008 22:03

becaroo and bogie so sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. Went to see Mama Mia with the MIL (SO good! Made the little guy dance around and then he got the hiccups ) Yeah, Weds at the castle works great. Did you want to meet up for a coffee or something?

eandz · 14/08/2008 22:07

hi guys, just caught up. we're such a chatty group!

notsoslimnow · 15/08/2008 08:28

morning ladies, hope everyone is well.i wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this ........after reading the posts and also the birth announcements sections it seems a huge amount of people are having c sections.i am a first timer who has planned a homebirth but am now starting to panic that i might have missed a trick! do all these women know something i dont or am i just imagining this.to be honest im thinking if you combine the people who know they are having a section with the ones who will end up with one there would seem very few who had a vb.hopefully there is someone on the september thread who is planning a vb and can come and tell me i am imagining all this!

johnworf · 15/08/2008 08:34

OOOH thrilled to see I made one of the lists in the 'arrivals' Thanks for remembering me (and Katherine more importantly!).

Hope you girls aren't struggling too much with your lumps.

Not long now huh?

hopefully · 15/08/2008 08:38

Wow, notcitrus, perineal massage sounds just marvellous. Will inform DP of his new duty tonight (assuming I can't reach...)

Notsoslimnow when i went to visit my hospital, they said they had a higher c-section rate than they want, at around 25%. Given that planning a homebirth dramatically reduces chance of CS, you're probably at fairly low risk of having one, barring any major dramas.

potxola · 15/08/2008 09:21

johnworf Thanks for coming back to us. We were very happy for you. I could not believe it! Kisses for you and you great baby, Katherine.

Jearund I will have the pre op the 26 in the morning. I will tell you then, what they say about the tablets. The surgery is the day after.

I also thought about the knickers question, funny, isn't it?. I was packing my bag thinking if I should have a couple handy. I don't remember what happened last time or what they did to me!!!!!!.

MUMS ON BABIES BOOK I borrowed this book yesterday and I thought you may not have heard about it, especially you first time mums. It was put together by the creators of mumsnet.com.
"Drawing on the wealth of material on the "Mumsnet" website, this guide presents the collected wisdom of real parents who have been through it all and survived to pass on their experience to others. Each chapter contains a distillation of the best postings submitted by thousands of the site's users, punctuated by fact boxes, tips and summaries of what parents have to say"

It also gives you the opinion of different experts in all the different topics.
I found it very helpful the first time because most of the time, what you MW tells you it does not work and in that book you can read about what worked for other mums and try the tips yourself.
It is like posting in mumsnet with a problem about feeding a baby and instantly having different answers from other mums and experts.
They have another book "Mums on pregnancy" also very useful. We don't have long to wait now, but the last chapters are about labour and very heplful to have a look at. I read yesterday all about elective c-sections and feel better about it.(The arnica was mentioned and recommended)
Anyway I thought I should tell you about them. Scan through them in the library, they usually have a couple of copies in the children libraries under books on parenting.

I have just realised I am still the oldest in this thread, unless any of you is not telling the true

potxola · 15/08/2008 09:25

I forgot the link for the book;

digitalgirl · 15/08/2008 09:50

johnworf those pictures of little katherine getting bigger are amazing . I'm so pleased to hear she's thriving. What a little trooper!!!

Pidge · 15/08/2008 10:02

notsoslimnow - I'm planning a homebirth - this is my third, I had my first in hospital (vb, but rather long labour, posterior baby, epidural etc), second at home. I wish I'd known enough to go for a home birth first time round, you'll get brilliant care and you'll be at much lower risk of intervention than if you go into hospital. I loved my homebirth and am looking forward to this one too. Good luck.

bogie · 15/08/2008 10:04

Mellabella I think there is a coffee shop in or very near the castle so that will be good I hope you two don't mind me bringing ds with me he should be good
What time were you both thinking I can do 1.30 onwards.

mamamufin · 15/08/2008 10:04

Morning guys, just caught up. We certainly are chatty! . Come on sasss......

mellabella · 15/08/2008 10:13

bogie- oh of course bring the little guy! I'm sure there's something around the castle... if not we can always walk across the street by market square to starbucks or costa or something. I'll be in the city centre all day because we have a scan at QMC so do you want to meet at 2-2:30?

biglips · 15/08/2008 10:32

hiya all! back from the hospital. Spoken to the consultant and he said that the baby is still breech. Got another appointment next Friday when ill be 37 weeks (im 36 weeks today) to the Breech clinic to see if they can turn the baby around. I said "Even though i had a e c-section with my DD???" and he said "Yes as it had been done before with other women who had e csection"...if cant move the baby then it gotta be a elective c-section.

whatta think???

bogie · 15/08/2008 10:53

2 is good for me as I will take ds to the school uniform shop on maid marion way before I meet you.
Is that good for you becaroo?

mustsleep · 15/08/2008 11:30

morning all

starlight you are so right aboutthem being ever so willing to chuck you out of the hospital if you are not in enough pain for their liking

my waters broke at home so i went straight in as started getting contractions, they examined me refused to do an internal as then they would have to admit me - she had to check to see if my waters had brokn as i may have just wet myself ...... think i might know the difference!!
putme on the monitor ting and then sent me home saying nothing would happen for ages and to come back when my contractions were 5 mins apart - i said they are already and she just smiled and tutted and o course they are off you go now

went home and basically had to phone them straight back and say that i needed to go back could they send an ambulance "no you should not have left if you had no way of getting back" which i had said on a number of occasions that i had not had to get my dad out of bed to take us back

got to hosp no wheel chairs and needed to push and the receptionist said it would be a 15 min wait for a wheelchair had to walk all the way to the delivery suite stopping every two mins and trying not to push - finally walked the mile and rode the lift four floors up and then had to wait at the delivery suite door as no one would answer and it was locked

finally she answered and directed us to a cubicle and went to finish her cuppa i made dh goa and get her back she tutted and said lets have a look then and three seconds later i was pushing and baby was born

she actually had to fish my placenta back out of the bin as she had thrown it way as she had not read my notes as she hadn;t had time and had not realised that i was rh-

can't imagine why i would fancy a homebirth this time .....

anyway checked my bank thismorning to see if i had been paid and found that only halfmy wage was in - phoned payroll andthey made a big deal out of saying that my holiday request form had been sent off and i would lose all my hols as i am now on mat leave!!

finally after crying down the phone etc discovered that i had been paid my hol pay just didn;t realise how we get paid

so instead of getting a full wage likei thought half half a wage this month and the ma should cover the other half

have phoned ma and they say that i sent it in 4 weeks ago (due to work being so bloody slack) and that it would prob be another 7-8 weeks until it is sorted but not to worry as will get it back paid

that's all very well and good but i have nop money at all and my loan payment is due for the next three months and i some how don;t think that they will take too kindly to me back paying them so that's a bit of a shitter

hopefully we must be due some good news!!

MelT76 · 15/08/2008 11:47

Thats it then. A seat on the floor of the CMU it is!

Mustsleep I was told 2-3 weeks at least for MA when I called but had a payment into my account less than a week later, and before I actually received all the paperwork. Don't panic just yet, they may surprise you.

mustsleep · 15/08/2008 11:52

thanks Mel i hope so!!
