I would go for a double personally something like the Phil and Teds that you can use as a single but also a double

I generally think a child has to be 2.5 to cope without a double/toddler pram seat unless you want to use a sling for the baby.

If you can afford a Phil & Ted's, I would definitely recommend it. We bought one for arrival of DS last November - DD was 28 mths when he was born - and it's been brilliant. Even if your DS is a good walker, I think you can probably bank on him wanting to go in the pushchair if he sees his younger sibling in there. As a friend said, there is nothing worse than being out and having your older child whinging that they want to go in the pushchair when they can't.

The beauty of the P&T is that I can use it as a single when out just with DS and it will also still be useful when DD finally outgrows a pushchair.

I think it depends on your child and how much walking you do. To be honest, I have very, very rarely used ds's pushchair in the last year (he is 2.5) - mostly only to push shopping. He can do a 40 min walk (his speed!) and has been able to for a while. However, we don't go every day, maybe once or twice a week, otherwise it is usually the car and toddler groups are 2 mins walk. Also, he has never been one to sleep in his buggy but if yours is, then it is more advisable to get a double...

you know your son and what you do and what he can cope with. Go with your instinct on it.

I actually think temperment of your dc has a lot to do with it, whether he's likely to run off or will he hold onto the pushchair nicely?

MerryMarigold · 18/06/2008 22:53

and definitely get some reins or a wrist strap!

ive just had a look at the phil and teds website and their pushchairs do look great .. all i would say is with that ages gap dont get a traditional front to back or side by side pushchair as the weight difference will make you very lobsided!

goodie2shoes · 25/06/2008 23:37

thank you so much for advice. I didnt even think of the weight difference. Unless I put lead shot on one side ;-)
