Red hair is beautiful. The remarks are a social pattern propagated by the media.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 01/06/2008 23:01

I have never understood this whole thing about ginger hair being undesirable.

slinkiemalinki · 01/06/2008 23:03

Is this the "ginger hair comments" antenatal club or in the wrong place perhaps?
Anyway the person you have met is slightly odd, and very rude if I am following your post correctly. No baby is ugly!

eenybeeny · 01/06/2008 23:04

Where I come from it is considered to be the height of beauty. I really dont get the british thing with being so horrible about it. I dont blame you AT ALL for being furious at those stupid comments. Your DD is LOVELY.

It stems from the suppression of Irish people... and incidentally red haired/green eyed people are becoming more and more rare as society reaches out to other cultures more. So those of us with either red hair or green eyes are actually very special and hold a part of humanities heritage that is fast vanishing. Please be proud.

MsDemeanor · 01/06/2008 23:04

She's a nutter. Red hair is beautiful.

bluenosesaint · 01/06/2008 23:04

I truly love red hair. My neice is a beautiful red head and i really really wanted at least one of my dd's to have red hair ...was quite gutted when they didn't, lol.

eenybeeny · 01/06/2008 23:06

I have 2 DDs that were red when they were born, they have now turned into a gorgeous reddish/aurbon/blonde/teichan(sp). their hair colour is amazing, although my eldest who is 14, hates it! I remember her photos when she was a baby, how red she was and wondered where the colouring had come from - both DH and I have brown hair, he has blue eyes and I have brown eyes.

I honestly thought that all my DC would be brown haired and brown eyed little beings! How wrong.

I love their hair colour, just wish my eldest didn't. All she wants to do is dye it!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 01/06/2008 23:10

I am looking forward to seeing if my next dc due in Oct is going to have red hair. I was called names at school for my colouring and it pissed me off but want doesn't kill you makes you strong and as an adult it mattters less - and my hair has faded.

Ignore Ignore Ignore and enjoy your dd's beautiful hair

Miaou · 01/06/2008 23:11

My eldest had strawberry blonde hair as a baby, we were so hoping it would go ginger but it didn't! I LOVE ginger hair, it's gorgeous

chipmonkey · 01/06/2008 23:13

I went to school with a girl whose mother had red hair and whose Dad was Greek; she had the most fabulous hair, a really dark curly Auburn, brown eyes and milky skin, total beauty!

nannyjo · 01/06/2008 23:14

my friends little boy (3.5) has just decided that he doesn't like his ginger hair as he is different from his friend He is gorgeous and his hair is lovely.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 01/06/2008 23:17

I have dark red hair and green eyes. I feel all proud now, eenybeeny.

Seriously, my DH is a bit gingery- strawberry blond and ginger beard, he's tall, lean and broad shouldered and I think it's lovely- his family are largely from scottish islands, and sailors- there's a big nordic/scandinavian influence in his family.

eenybeeny · 01/06/2008 23:37

I have brunette hair and green eyes.

pinky you SHOULD be proud! Seriously. People who have those genetic traits are dying out and we have a special place in the world for that very fact.

DS has green eyes and his hair is the colour of autumn leaves. Absolutely stunning. I was praying when I was pregnant that he would get my eyes. And he did! Oh and DH has gorgeous brown eyes. I just wanted my DS to have the green.

WanderingTrolley · 01/06/2008 23:39

hayley your friend is an idiot.

I'd love to be a redhead. Sometimes I have been, in fact.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 01/06/2008 23:46

DS has green eyes, I'm very pleased. He was born pale ginger but it fell out and now it's blond and curly.

Carnival · 01/06/2008 23:49

Cos it would be awful to look like this...

DUSTIN · 02/06/2008 11:17

hayley2u my DS has red hair and I am always getting comments where- ever I go. I had one man shout out 'what have you done to that boy's hair' when I was shopping. People think it's strange as I am blonde and my DH has dark hair and we have a red haired DS. They make comments like- 'is he the milkman's'- so rude!

chipmonkey · 02/06/2008 12:26

Dustin, ( is that the turkey or the hoffman variety?) a lady in our swimming pool once asked me if ds3's very blonde hair was his natural colour! Asif I would peroxide a one year old's hair!

nobodysfool · 02/06/2008 12:45

I am so proud of my red headded son.I think he is very striking (pic on profile).

MrsPhas3 · 02/06/2008 12:46

My dd2 has beautiful deep ginger hair and gorgeus hazel eyes, and a unique sense of style, at 4 and a half. She claims to hate it, but I think she will come to love it - she has a big feisty personality to go with it. Even her good friends tell her she's the odd one out though - I tell her good, but she's too young to understand.

dd1 and ds are fair like me and dh, and I've had comments abut dd2 looking different, whether she's mine, and worst still if they have different fathers!!! I hate the comment 'at least you haven't got a ginger boy'. As if I would love him less/hide him away if he was But having said all this, my dad is a redhead and I've always been quite pleased that I wasn't too (as much to disassociate myself from dad as a teenager as anything else)

MamaG · 02/06/2008 12:48

I love red hair too

I asked DD if one of the boys in her class was teased for having red hair (they are Y4, 8-9) and she lookd at me quizzically and said "why would he be teased for his hair colour? That would be offensive"

TheUnsinkableMB · 02/06/2008 13:10

People who have a 'problem' with ginger hair are knobs.
Its just a hair colour ffs!

Also think people who comment about parents having different hair colour to kids are uneducated plebs, its about dominant and recessive genes, and not what hair colour the parents have.

In my family, a blonde man and brown haired woman had 6 kids, 4 with ginger hair, one with blonde and one with brown.

I'm ginger, my xp was brown and dd is blonde.
