Maternal sepsis

Hi all, I’m a FTM and my DS was born last week by EMCS as I developed sepsis in labour. DS was on antibiotics for first few days and is thriving with no ill effects, thank god!
I have looked into this a little and understand it’s not too uncommon. I’m definitely feeling better but my god it’s been a rough recovery so far. Just wondering if anyone has any experience on recovery from this? I still feel very weak and have occasional bouts of feeling very spacey, hot and sweaty. We are now at home, Im on antibiotics, pain relief and bloody thinners. Thanks for sharing your experiences and tips!

Sorry you ended up with sepsis, you must be exhausted. Recovery from sepsis is usually very slow, you will look back and realise you feel better but it will be snails pace.

Say yes to anyone who offers help and keep an eye out for recurrence.

I had sepsis due to pneumonia (not maternal) and it took at least six months to get to a sort of normal.

Thoughts are with you.

Just wanted to message to say that I hope you’re recovery goes well, it is an awful experience to go through.

I developed sepsis a few days after my DC was born (now a teen). It came on so fast and unfortunately I ignored the warning signs. Ended up in hospital with IV drip. Took a few months to recover physically from which was harder due to looking after a newborn. Just take your time is my advice, don’t rush to do lots of things. Accept any offers of help.

It took me longer to get over it mentally. I couldn’t believe how unwell I became in a short space of time and the fact that I ignored the early signs. It was important for me to talk about my experience and was lucky enough to have good family and friends who allowed me to go through it with them when I needed to.

I also agree to be vigilant over reoccurrence and get checked out if at all worried.

Yes I did! Ended up in hdu, was a really horrible experience. Recovery was a hard slog and I felt awful for ages. Something I would say - please, please let yourself recover. I stupidly pushed myself to do loads of stuff because I was "better" and didn't want people to think I was making a fuss. I wish I'd just relaxed and let myself recover in my own time. Take very good care of yourself and little one. You WILL feel better in time.

I had maternal sepsis as well after my first born. Developed sepsis again during my second pregnancy a year later. Apparently sepsis can reoccur if you’ve had it before.

I wish you all the best with your recovery
