I'm giggling at all the horrible advice everyone's getting, that is the advantage of having one already - people leave you alone a lot more. But when you're faced with people telling you things, I think it's better not to disagree with them and say you'll do things differently in case you change your mind - I changed my mind on a bunch of things (like using dummies) and would have hated to have to admit it. I prefered to pretend it was the plan all along...

I know someone who had a lot of success with a chiropractor for back pain in pregnancy - she went from crutches one week at our antenatal to walking normally the next. Good luck to everyone who's having a tough time!

nettiehay - hope you can find a car seat that fits! We didn't go for the buggy attachment because we didn't want to keep DS in a car seat too long (it's not as good for their lungs I think) so I just transfered him to a sling or the buggy when we arrived anywhere. Yes it's a bit of a hassle, but it's not too bad so if you can't find a car seat that fits the buggy and the car, don't worry too much about it!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2008 08:43

Josey I want one of those tshirts!

Wombat there's some anti-breastfeeding vibes coming my way too from my mum, SIL x2... Funnily enough all 3 women found bf tough and gave up after a day or two. I absolutely dont/wouldn't judge them on that but as far as they're concerned, there's nothing wrong with formula. HELLO - I know that, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't give it a go. Grrrr.

Hope you all have a lovely Easter - it's not officially a bank holiday in Scotland (although just about everyone is off work, judging by the fact it took a third of my normal time to get in this morning) so I'm in the office today. Off Monday though!

Rolf I read somewhere that if you have really bad heartburn lying down try and prop up the top end of your bed - that's supposed to help. Hope you managed to get some sleep.

Rolf · 21/03/2008 10:18

I had a good night's sleep. Not eating very much is an effective remedy for heartburn! Much better today, although still very dizzy and breathless which I'm assuming is anaemia as my bp is fine.

It's the first day of the children's holiday and we are being very slobby. It's lovely to have them all home (sure I'll feel differently before the fortnight's up!). They are all in the bath together. I put DD in as she ate some shampoo and was a soapy mess, and the boys wanted to get in with her. I'm not being negligent - I know they are all safe as they are only a few feet away and I can hear them!

Deb - I don't know why each week I'm surprised to find that we are at the same stage - given that we have the same due date. Doh! 29 weeks for me too!

aberdeenhiker · 21/03/2008 11:54

It's so quiet on here today - I guess it's because it's a holiday down south right? It's not an official holiday in Aberdeen but I think about half the city is taking the day off - unfortunately that doesn't include me!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2008 12:08

I hear you aberdeen - same here! Was expecting a fairly easy, skivy day but unfortunately my boss on hols next week so constantly getting handovers etc. Am taking Monday off though - what about you?

aberdeenhiker · 21/03/2008 13:01

I'll be in for a 1/2 day on Monday... we technically have it off but I need to work on these days to build up time to take off the local Aberdeen holidays as that's when the nursery's closed.

sophiewd · 21/03/2008 13:09

Done breakfast, done room, DD just about to go to Grandmas for a couple of hours and we are going to see some friends and then home waiting for the next guests to come in, tomorrow I have aqua natal and will take DD swimming before deoending on how organised I am and then Sunday we are going to parents for lunch with DB and his 2 boys and DB, SIL and there 3 boys, which should be fun, Monday is cleaning rooms and that is my weekend.

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2008 13:19

aberdeen - good that they let you build up time in that way but rubbish that you have to work on Monday. Local holidays in Scotland - don't you just love them.

Sorry for everyone else who has to do some kind of work this weekend, my previous job involved lots of weekend/bank holiday work so you have my sympathies.

Think I might start washing baby clothes and nappies on Monday . Also might head off to ikea to get some drawers for the nursery (will have to let my unsuspecting DH know about that at an opportune moment .

Crikey it is quiet on here today.

PiggyPenguin · 21/03/2008 14:35

Have started painting nursery so feeling very proud of self and decided to take a break. I love the way people tell you how to give birth/raise your kids, its not annoying at all is it? Everytime I mention labour my mum goes on at great length about how her best birth was the one with no pain relief at all. Yeah, but given this is my third and I've already done every pain relief known to man including an epidural I just ignore her.

The bf-ing comments do piss me off though. With dc2 my mum kept telling me off for leaving her on the breast for too long as she'll 'use you like a dummy' this from a woman who only ever manged a couple of weeks of bf-ing. In the end I pointed out that I had bf previous child for 12 months and knew exactly what I was doing - then she got the huff with me for being rude! Ignore them all, thats my advice.

debinaustria · 22/03/2008 07:47

Morning everyone, hope you have a lovely Easter weekend, don't overdose on those eggs. I have my next creme eggs arriving today

Anyone else with really restless legs at night - not when I sleep but when I'm watching TV in the evening, I just couldn't sit still last night.

sophiewd · 22/03/2008 07:50

Morning Deb, don't work too hard today

ernest · 22/03/2008 08:23

morning. lovely and sunny here today.
Dh taking ds 1 & 2 skiing, I'm on poorly child duty (again) as ds3 still got v. high temp. He's been poorly over a week now (looking better on Wed but getting bad on Thursday again)

Wrote out my list of things to do yesterday - a mere 2 sides of A4! The removal firm came to do a quote and they were so horrified at how much stuff we had () they had to call their boss to come along to take a look as they were so shocked (double ). to be fair, between the 5.5 of us we only have 1 wardrobe and 3 chests of drawers, but we do have 5 sofas, 2 garden tables and 13 garden chairs........ (not our fault we have a big roof terrace = 2 chairs) a patio at the (back - 1 table + 6 chairs) and a patio on the shady north side (1 table + 5 chairs)

debinaustria · 22/03/2008 14:15

That's it - last big changeover done - what a relief. My bath is running whilst I am on here , then I am going for a soak before settling down with the boys to watch a dvd.

Thanks for the well wishes Sophie, the guests are returners from last year and when they arrived we weren't quite ready, one asked if she could help with the hoovering - bless!!

Ernest - wondered how you were getting on, you've been very quiet! Sorry to hear you have a poorly boy again, at 13 chairs!!!!

sophiewd · 22/03/2008 14:38

Ernest, sounds like you are getting a huge amount of help on another thread, must be a big relief to you.

bitofadramaqueen · 22/03/2008 15:47

Crikey its quiet this weekend. Everyone v busy with Easter?

Ernest - LOL at all of your garden furniture; has the new place got a very big garden?

Deb - glad your last big changeover done. I've found it very dificult to get comfortable while watching tv a few times. Been driving my DH mad with it! When we bought our sofas it was definitely style over comfort and now I long for a big comfy sofa to cuddle up in. DH has pointed out that we're sticking with our current sofas for a few years yet though ( at everyone with big squishy sofa).

Went shopping today (for myself) but managed to buy a lot more for the baby than for me. Is this how its going to be from now on?!?!?!? Sob.

Clearly pregnancy brain kicking in though - when I put away a couple of all in ones from M&S I saw that I'd bought the same ones already . Different size though so will just keep them I think. Am glad that all the shops slowly starting to get more summery neutral clothes in.

makecakesnotwar · 22/03/2008 15:58

HI all-

convinced DH to get dongle this weekend so now we have internet on the move, yippee. All the better as I will be spending most of the weekend resting...managed to trip over the dog the other day and pull pelvic muscles (quite an achievement), not helping SPD. Such a bugger to turn over in bed I end up waking at stupid o'clock then having to nap during the day...I also banged my head on the car boot and have done a couple of other numpty-ish things. So no sense of space or balance left at all. I despair of myself.

Going to the cinema tonight though- DH has splashed out on a sofa for two at our new multiplex. Supper beforehand at Frankie & Benny's/Chiquito's (they only ever seem to be in cinema complexes). A real date night! We were joking that if the cinema is trying to make your cinema experience as homely as possible, they need to let our dog come too. She'll sit and snore quite happily between us on the sofa, waking for the occasional bit of popcorn. Wondering whether I will be too!!

Hope it's not too blowy where you are...

sophiewd · 22/03/2008 16:35

Makecakes, what a fantastic idea, sofas in a cinema, we still have two rows of double seats in our local fleapit. Have had a good day today, breakfasts, then managed to take DD swimming although she didn't want to get out and kept running away and jumping in so she nearly joined our aquanatal class

debinaustria · 22/03/2008 16:40

Dramaqueen - yes that is how it will always be - when you go shopping you'll always be on the look out for goodies for the baby not you!!

We went for comfort over style and I love my settee - it also reclines - pure bliss!!

Lol at buying the same clothes but in a different size.

Makecakes - sorry to hear about your accidents, relax and enjoy the cinema tonight and the rest of the weekend. What are you going to see?

Not blowy here but it is snowing again which is good.

thegreenfairy · 22/03/2008 17:25

Afternoon all. Glad my 'do this, do that' post rang true! Although I wasn't at all surprised you'd all been getting the same cr*p. I like the 'my bump will explode' t-shirt idea.

Am not feeling any better tho (although also chuffed to be at 29 weeks - yay!)
For the last three nights I've woken at 4/5ish and then taken 2-3 hours to get back to sleep. The first night I didn't know what it was - took me an hour of lying there to work out I was starving hungry! I think LO is having a growth spurt, but getting up at 4.30am to eat toast is not my idea of fun - feeling very drained and not up to much.

Also gave in and bought a support belt as back has been a bit achy and hips now quite sore at night.

Spent an HOUR in mothercare trying on bras yesterday before I got one that fit - so annoying! Now a 40DD (was 36C) and amazingly, 40width is as high as they go! Can't believe there aren't women out there bigger than me fgs.

DH has got me Heroes Season 2 to watch so am going to lie on the sofa for the rest of the day.

Seeing midwife on Tuesday and am going to really ram the point home re homebirth as felt fobbed off last time. Have read up on my rights and now primed for a battle. Interested to see only about half of women registered for HB at my chosen hospital end up having one, compared to almost all at the other local hosp - seriously considering changing as I fear it indicates a disuasive attitude.
wombat can you help with this? Do you know what the attitude is to HB at St Michael's (or are you Southmead?) I was quite shocked by the figures on Dr Fosters...

Off to eat almond slices and have a nap.
Have a great Easter guys!

Upsidedowncake · 22/03/2008 18:45

Hi everyone

Gosh it's taken me ages to catch up.

I didn't realise that you don't have Good Friday and Easter Monday off in Scotland! That explains why a guy at NHS Scotland said he was going to send me something on Friday afternoon and could I look at it straight away ...

I did do some work yesterday (although it's not even my work day) as have masses to do, and a pretty stressed - hence so quiet.

But I decided to cheer myself up this afternoon by going shopping.

Geen fairy, totally with you on bra rage - and I am bigger than you. Just got told by a vast woman in JoJo Maman Bebe that they only do bras in 'normal sizes' (ie up to 40F ffs!!!!) They are a maternity shop - don't they realise that people's boobs grow in pregnancy and for breastfeeding? (Plus there was a bit of pot / kettle going on with this woman) Grrr.

STRRRROOOOOPPPPPP!

aberdeenhiker · 22/03/2008 19:26

mothercare's bra range is useless - I was too small for most of their bras and had to order online!

greenfairy - I hope you find more support for your homebirth, I know there's good support from the community midwives here although they are understaffed and there's always the chance that you'll go into labour at the same time as someone else and miss out (my friend was thrilled when she found out that she'd gotten her home birth by calling 2 hours ahead of someone else - although the someone else had a long labour and actually got a chance for the homebirth after my friend!).

ernest - wow - I clicked over to the conversation about your move - what luck to get such great information! That's fantastic!

dylansmumplusone · 22/03/2008 20:57

evening all. makecakes sorry to hear about you falling - when it rains it pours! i feel fantastic today and i stood for over an hour last night at the gig we went to. by the end my legs were a bit shaky and i thought i'd be so sore today but i'm almost normal!! i'm back to believing that osteopath is a miracle worker... it just got worse before it got better. i really highly recommend seeing one, especially one that specialises in SPD if you can. hope you enjoy your movie!

greenfairy and upsidedowncake you can buy bra extenders that work really well, then you don't have to buy as many bras either. just a thought. at the cheek of the woman in shop tho!

ernest hope your entire household is happy and healthy again soon.

deb hope you had a great bath!!

happy easter everyone!!!

sophiewd · 23/03/2008 08:46

Happy Easter everyone and hope you are stuffing yourselves with chocolate eggs!!

Debs do you want my guests before they drive me even further up the wall then they already have.

debinaustria · 23/03/2008 08:56

Happy Easter to all you lovely ladies and bumps.

Thanks Sophie but I'll stick with the very nice guests that we've got - they bought me teabags and golden syrup and a "few bits" for the baby - 3 bodysuits, 3 hats, 3 pairs of socks, 1 outfit in cream, and a 7 piece set from adams in neutral colours. Isn't that lovely? I can almost forgive them forgetting my creme eggs!!!

Got the house to myself for 2 hours which is great, I think a milky coffee and chocolate is calling, see you later.

goingfor3 · 23/03/2008 09:22

Happy Easter everyone, we have some snow here so glad we are not driving anywhere today. i have tickets for Chicago tommorow so am hoping it stops so I can get into London!
