Debs - Nice to hear that your two boys get on well, as we will have 22 months between ours and I am secretly hoping for another boy .

thegreenfairy · 10/03/2008 14:47

Ktpie - have you tried putting a want on freecycle for a moses basket? Worth a go...
I know a mattress costs a bit, but it would save you money to spend on something else...

whinegums · 10/03/2008 14:50

Hello ladies. Have just hit a wall of tiredness, but at work and nowhere to slope off to for a nap. Boo.

Bitofadramaqueen - I wear lenses too, feel really disorientated without them or with glasses - my specs are also v old! I'm going to pack some of those individual contact lens eye drop things - do you know the ones I mean? - for the hospital, as well as several spare pairs, and hope for the best. There's a place online to buy really cheap specs (from about £25) - I was thinking about getting a pair from there just in case.

makecakesnotwar · 10/03/2008 15:31

Just woken from a nap with tummy ache. Bought a set of fake wedding/engagement rings in M&S on Saturday because mine don't fit anymore, and I refuse to go into hospital without a ring on (plus if the stories are right and people steal your things, the thieves will be disappointed to get my cheap fake set and not my antique real set!!)11 weeks to go and feeling very sorry for myself- we lost yet another house today...ours just doesn't seem to want to sell. I tell you what, I was an emotional person before but this pregnancy thing has kicked it up to an entirely new level!! The dog is going mad with all the stormy weather, but I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere today. Even DH is working from home.

I got my Moses Basket on Ebay- new and never been used so didn't have to buy a new mattress! I see them quite often in my local charity shops...worth checking them out too.

makecakes- that's bad news on the house front, it must be awful for you as I know how strong the urge is to get everything ready for the little ones arrival. Fingers crossed something great will work out for you.

goingfor3 · 10/03/2008 15:42

I agree I am really mean!!! Hopefully the batteries will run out really quickly and then I won't feel so bad putting it away though it wasn't very nice being woken this afternoon to the sound of an irritating disco beat - I probably shouldn't fall asleep when I'm alone with DD2 though!

Makeckaes,, so sorry about the house.

goingfor3 · 10/03/2008 15:45

DP's parents did get some lovely playmobil for dd2 so she won't be left presentless, I think I'm being oversensitive and hormonal!

mellymell · 10/03/2008 16:35

Hi all.

Makecakes - sorry about the house. What a bugger. Am doing a virtual patting of the hand becuase was in a similar predicament when pregnant with DS1 and know how stressful it is - I recommend lots of deep yogic breathing.

Goingfor3 - totally agree with noisy toys - very inconsiderate.

Am impressed about how organised everyone is - haven't even thought about the organisation for this delivery.

Am frantic at work and weekends are busy just keeping on top of domestic harmony eg washing and ironing. May possibly have overdone it on Saturday when was woken up in the middle of the night by a huge Braxton Hicks - babe inside was not impressed. Could also be because I ate some pineaple before I went to bed - one of the 'tools' for inducing labour (although never worked for me before).

Rolf · 10/03/2008 16:42

Just quickly skimmed the thread! Looney - great to see you and lovely news about your DH's job. What a relief for you.

ktpie - I was at an NCT sale on Saturday too. Was it the same one? North Liverpool? I didn't get anything for the baby though I bought a few things for DD . I'm sure that all I need is new mattresses and nappies but I expect there's a huge list waiting for me!

ktpie · 10/03/2008 16:56

Rolf - I was at the Nottingham one, I was impressed by it, going to have a look and see when the next one is and this time arrive in time to park!

Freecycle is a good idea for a moses basket, on our local one baby stuff gets snapped up really quickly but it's worth a try. Ebay seems a good option as a lot of them seem to come with the stand included which makes the cost of a new mattress worthwhile.

Sorry to hear about the house makescakes, we lost the one we wanted the other week, the market seems to be rubbish at the moment, no one has even been to view ours. We are getting used to the idea that we will definitely be having the baby in this house, not too bad but it will be a squash, at the moment there isn't room to put the cot up which is why we are looking for a moses basket, hoping that by the time the baby needs to move into the cot we will have moved, otherwise we will need to do a lot of rearranging!

I feel like I am getting a cold this afternoon, a bit headachy, maybe it's just the weather (wishful thinking!)

Upsidedowncake · 10/03/2008 17:00

SO Sorry about the house, makecakes. I hope your house gets sold soon, it's so stressful (and unnecessarily complex)

G43 - happy birthday for Saturday. Love the microphone . Someone gave DS a battery operated power drill last week, so I completely understand what you mean.

Hope everyone in England is able to travel around this evening.

bitofadramaqueen · 10/03/2008 17:38

whinegums - good idea on the drops. Will add to list for my bag. Anyone (apart from makecakes ) even started thinking about getting their bag ready?

Sorry about the house makecakes, that sucks!

Upsidedowncake · 10/03/2008 17:57

hospital bag ... ? [Upsidedowncake places head firmly back in sand again]

makecakesnotwar · 10/03/2008 18:03

Thanks everyone...I swear this is the last time we ever move....

LOL DQ- am too organised for my own good. I even went and got new glasses at the weekend (the dog chewed mine) BOGOF, so have a spare pair for hospital. That's entirely luck but feeling very pleased with myself now!

HAve made myself feel better by buying things for CJ on Ebay...very cute bright pink muslins with little white stars. Just need to hide them from DH!

Have to join the great London commute tomorrow...not looking forward to it.

pedilia · 10/03/2008 18:14

ktpie- I managed to get a brand new moses basket on ebay for £20 so there are bargains o be had. When I had DD I got one for £5 with a wipeable mattress, keep looking!!

ernest · 10/03/2008 18:15

hospital bag??

bitofadramaqueen · 10/03/2008 18:52

Good, its not just me then. Crikey makecakes, I dont even have a pair of glasses never mind a spare pair .

Anyone getting, well, kind of BORED of being pregnant? I've gone through a whole pregnancy overload so now that I should start thinking about birth choices etc I can't be a*sed researching anything vaguely pregnancy related. I'm also pining for my social life and the days when people had a conversation with me that didn't start 'how are you keeping?'. Oh and very very bored of feeling uncomfortable, tired, fat and sober (not that I was a raging drunk beforehand obviously ). I was muttering to my DH the other day about how I couldn't wait to get my social life back and then I realised I would never ever get back the one that I had .

whinegums · 10/03/2008 19:10

I have a list for my hospital bag... Only because I am a compulsive list maker.

Dramaqueen - I'm not bored being pregnant yet, but probably because I didn't know I was til 12 weeks - so handily 'missed out' the first trimester. Duh! But I am bored of watching friends get pissed (it's putting me off getting hammered in future I have to say, not that I was a raging drunk in the past either, and nor are my friends now!) and also v bored with the 'advice' on what I should call my baby - and if I suggest some names I like, friends telling me not to! Baby names now banned from all future conversations! Oooh, I wouldn't say we'll never get back our social lives, just maybe not until 2024.....

debinaustria · 10/03/2008 19:11

A friend here said that you hardly need anything in your hospital bag - just toiletries for yourself was what the hospital said! Apparently they provide everything for the baby - nappies, clothes etc..., and everything for Mum - nighties, maternity sanitary pads etc... It's going to be strange - very strange.

ernest · 10/03/2008 19:32

we'll take a couple of mags, eh?

I remember last time them bringing me my own personal trolley of a variety of teas, still & sparling water etc. I didn't dare ring the biuzzer at all after UK experience. The girl in the next bed was buzzing every 2 minutes - take baby away, bring me a tea, plump up my pillows, my phones not working etc etc

wonder if they're as keen on quark in austria as here in switzerland?

Rolf · 10/03/2008 20:13

Bad luck on the house, Makecakes. Moving house is the pits.

Goingfor3 - I sympathise about the noisy present. My MIL asked what the DSs wanted for Xmas a few years ago, and I said anything that is small and quiet. She bought them a 2' tall electric organ! She lives in the US and has loads of space and I think just forgets that English houses aren't the same.

Dramaqueen - I'm a bit sick of being pregnant, too. I think something odd is going on with my digestion (nice!) as I feel so uncomfortable and bloaty, in a not-merely-pregnant way. I feel as though the baby's head is very low down, almost like pre-labour feelings really. Early labour is NOT something I have experienced so I'm assuming it's not happening this time, but I feel very odd. I also can't believe I'm going to get any bigger. I'm sleeping very badly, which isn't helped by having at least 1 child in the bed with me. Must somehow find the energy to deal with DD's awful sleep habits. DH is away for a few days so I'd quite looked forward to being able to spread out in bed and adjust my pillow arrangements but instead I had DS2 and DD starfishing all night

makecakesnotwar · 10/03/2008 20:21

I'm not remotely fed up of being pregnant...still amazed to be here to be honest after fertility treatment, one mc and ectopic scare. I am fed up of people not wanting to talk about anything else, like I don't have a life, and of reading baby books. Spent a fortune on them in the first few weeks and can't be bothered to look at them now. The closer I get to labour, the more I am taking a head-in-sand approach

But I am impatient to meet her...is it May yet?

OP posts:
Rolf · 10/03/2008 20:40

That's a nice perspective on it, Makecakes

bitofadramaqueen · 10/03/2008 20:46

I agree with Rolf makecakes! I've had two mc's so I am hugely grateful to be here with a lo kicking away at me - i'm just a bit bored of all the other pregnancy stuff. Can I join you in the sand? I bet you've got a packed lunch in case you get hungry while you're buried in there! .

Right - I'm going to go and do some studying for the first time since October... wish me luck...

Hope you get a good night's sleep Rolf!
