Stirling now. Much much wetter than Aberdeen ever was!

josey · 02/03/2008 21:42

Hi everyone I have had to borrow DHs work laptop as we have sold computer to make room and havent bought a house laptop yet which is making my nerves gangle from mn withdrawals.

Anyway had 3d scan yday and we are having another girl, DH was a bit dissapointed but is getting over it I was sure it was as boy as well and Im really struggling for names this time.

Hope I get back online quickly and can catch up properly with you all.

josey · 02/03/2008 21:45

have uploaded a pic from yesterdays scan I thinks its unreal

debinaustria · 03/03/2008 06:29

Morning

Josey - what an amazing photo - your little girl looks gorgeous. I'm sorry to hear that your dh is disappointed, I can understand his feelings, but he has 3 months now to get used to the idea

I'm tired, I had the 3.30 loo wake up call last night and just couldn't get back to sleep, so at 4.00 I got up and read on the settee before dropping off back to sleep on there eventually.

Apart from that though - no other problems so far so I'm lucky - still being sick every morning though - anyone else?

aberdeenhiker · 03/03/2008 08:01

tassisssss - yup, I'm in Aberdeen and I love that it's drier here that the last place we lived (Vancouver) although I miss the shops/food sometimes. Josey's in Aberdeenshire too so there's a bunch of us in Scotland.

josie57, katyjo, dylansmumplusone - last night was DS's second night in his big bed and it went okay. He seems to get to sleep fine but we had some problems this morning when he heard DH getting up to shower. We used to just leave him in his cot and see if he'd go back to sleep but that's not really an option now and he was a bit confused to be in a bed instead this morning! (Yesterday was perfect though, he slept in until 7am and then toddled in to our room to wake us).

bitofadramaqueen · 03/03/2008 08:16

Morning everyone. Lovely pic Josey - its making me want a 3d scan...

Can't believe that its Monday morning already, where did the weekend go?!?!?!?

makecakesnotwar · 03/03/2008 08:17

Debs- you prro thing, still being sick. Sending sympathy and virtual anti-nausea chocolate.

Josey- congrats on your girl. You are right- the photo is unreal...too cool for words.

I have caught my mother's cold, so had a rotten night's sleep...too much to do today and don't feel like working! I had three people call me yesterday to wish me a Happy Mother's Day...next year it really will be me. I CAN@T WAIT!!!!

dylansmumplusone · 03/03/2008 09:04

deb i seem to be having a morning sickness revival as well. not being sick but just soooo queasy. i thought it was from my cold clearing up (phlegm, ick) but that's more or less gone now and still v naseous. if you're having a girl i'm going to take that to mean i'm having a girl too!

fab pic josey, i'm trying to book in our 3d scan at the place where had ds' but i can't seem to get through to them. might have to go somewhere else but i really liked them!

aberdeen hiker i'm sure in a few days if he's still tired he'll not stir after he hears daddy. if ds is awake he'll get up when dh's alarm goes off, if he's still sleepy he stirs but goes back to sleep until after he showers.

for all you knitters i may have a question later. i was almost in tears last night i was getting so frustrated trying to figure out how to cast on stitches in the middle of a row without it looking like total crap. i think it might be doable now, have to go have a look but even with all the internet resources (i've taught myself from videos, mostly www.knittinghelp.com, but this one wasn't really covered.

aberdeenhiker · 03/03/2008 09:20

dylansmumplusone - I hope so! DH gets up at 5:30 on weekdays and it really is too early for DS to be waking up. We already have him in bed before 7pm and if he doesn't sleep until 6:30 he's so grumpy.

dylansmumplusone · 03/03/2008 09:48

eek! dylan woke up at 5.30 for a couple weeks randomly but then soon realised it was too early even for him! it was a tough couple of weeks though.

goingfor3 · 03/03/2008 09:49

Josey, your picture is amazing!!!!

DLMPO, when I've tried to cast on in the middle of a row it always looks really tight but I'm not sure how to make it any better. I started to make a cable knit blanket but as I felt ill I haven't touched it for two weeks, I have only made a few centimeters so by the thime it's 80cms the baby probably will be too!

debinaustria · 03/03/2008 11:02

Dylansmum - I might find out on Wednesday if it's a girl so I'll let you know!!Not getting my hopes up though

Re the knitting - I don't knit but apparently Mum has finished the back and 2 sleeves of something for the baby in Cashmerino wool.

thegreenfairy · 03/03/2008 11:25

DMPO
Casting on in the middle of a row - what are you trying to achieve?
Are you trying to add a section, or do you just want to increase by a few stitches?
If you want to increase without making it tight, you can add a stitch by knitting into the front and back of one stitch.
Easier to watch than explain, so see this video.
If you need to cast on a large section, then you can do it as normal, but make your cast on looser by knitting into the back of the stitches rather than the front.
This has the advantage that your 'action' needle will stay in the new stitch, so you don't need to reinsert it for each cast on stitch - which makes it much more even and easier to control the tension. You can also switch to a size up needle while you do it, to help keep it loose.
The other way to increase is to pick up extra loops from the current row, but this will make it a lot tighter.
Hope this helps? What are you making? I've done four cardigans but am a bit sick of doing them now, so am making my dad some socks, before having a go at some cute bootees.

basilbrush · 03/03/2008 11:49

I have just made homemade chocolate eclairs (be impressed!) - anyone want one??

Rang MW, she was very nice and didn't seem to think I was unduly concerned but said as long as the baby is moving, just to hang on till my appt booked next week. They will measure me then and if they are really worried will send me for a growth scan immediatly, rather than waiting till 30 week

I am in no hurry to get DS out of cot (or rather, convert his cot into a bed so no "usurping issues" when Babe arrives as we'll have to buy him/her another cot!) as his room is downstairs and we are upstairs. I have visions of him wandering around, getting into untold danger in the kitchen etc. It's all very open plan downstairs so short of locking his bedroom door, not sure what we could do. According to my Mum, I was in my cot till I was 3 but my In Laws think I'm really weird that I haven't taken the sides off yet. Mind you, as I'm sure you all picked up, I think they're mental too so they can SOD OFF

right, eclairs calling......

Josie57 · 03/03/2008 11:57

Mmmmmm eclairs - I could eat a bundle of them! Good job I am just heading off for lunch, I think I will be adding a yummy desert to my tray today

dylansmumplusone · 03/03/2008 11:57

greenfairy i'm making these slippers. i had two strips of 6 stitches each that i needed to reconnect by casting on an extra 8 stitches in the middle. it was how to start the cast on that really confused me, and at the end of the 8 stitches (i think i used knit on method?) the yarn was in the wrong place which made it look a bit funny. but then i had to pick up stitches all around the edge to knit in the round anyway so i covered up the funny bit that way! have one top and bottom done so will post a finished pic!

bb i would like 3 eclairs please! 1 is never enough.

deb my fingers and toes are crossed for you that it's a girl because i really want one now too.

dylansmumplusone · 03/03/2008 12:00

bb lol about your in-laws!!

sophiewd · 03/03/2008 12:28

Hello everyone and hope you all had a good weekend, my mothers day present was to cook breakfast for 6 but we did go out to lunch and even managed to get tights and a skirt on DD without a meltdown.. We tried real nappies with DD but couldn't cope with washing and drying all B&B stuff, our clothes and nappies so have went back to disposables so good luck all, would probably have stick with them if not for that.

PARO if you have problems getting anything sent am quite happy to accept and send on to you.

thegreenfairy · 03/03/2008 12:33

DMPO - those slippers are lovely! May have a go for MIL, as we are both knitting fiends and always looking for new ideas.
DM may appreciate a pair too.
Sounds like standard knit casting on was the best method, but patterns aren't always v clear are they? And the trouble is, you don't often know you've gone wrong until it's finished!
Do post a pic when you're done - would love to see. May have a go with bright pink!

bitofadramaqueen · 03/03/2008 12:52

mmm, any eclairs left for me BB? Eating healthy(ish) yoghurt but chocolate eclairs much more appealing... Btw - could you put a gate in DS doorway? Obviously though, you should leave him in his cot as long as possible if only to wind up your mental in-laws a bit more!

V impressed with all the industrious knitting that is going on and sorry to hear of those who are feeling poorly.

nettiehay · 03/03/2008 13:02

Afteroon all, we had a fairly busy weekend - DP worked all day on Sat and Sun, so I sorted out our garden [laughs at the concept of a garden - more like a few pots by our front door]. I made quite a show of it, as someone in our block of flats has been helping themselves to the soil in my pots - even the ones which have flowering bulbs in them! Cheeky! I'm hoping they saw me and now realise that the pots belong to someone and aren't for general use!

We also had a Mothers Day dinner at FIL's place with DP's grandparents - poor Grandma is completely doolally - she asked me a dozen times when the baby was due and thought that FIL was the father . Poor Grandpa isn't coping well, so it looks like time for a hospice is drawing near.

MIL was in a big mood when DP called her, but we're not sure if that is because he forgot to send the card (I did remind him!), or because BIL is useless (he lives with MIL) or because we've decided to get a cot and not worry about a moses basket/crib... which she had her heart set on... argh - the dramas of families. Thank god mine are on the other side of the world!

Upsidedowncake · 03/03/2008 14:02

I can't believe the energy that everyone has! Knitting! Gardening! Making eclairs!!!

I sat down on the sofa twice yesterday during the day and found myself asleep! The book says that babies put on 25% of their body week between week 24 and week 25 so perhaps that's why?

Josey, that picture is amazing! Can you see any family resemblance?

debinaustria · 03/03/2008 14:17

BB - mmm an eclair for me too please, you're very clever - choux pastry, I am impressed.
When the time comes to it, I would put a gate on his door too.

Not long to wait then Dylansmum with your fingers and toes crossed, I'll let you know on Wed lunchtime - well that is if I know!!

Sophie - you should have postponed your Mother's Day until you had no guests then you could have had a lie in and breakfast in bed!

Jood · 03/03/2008 14:29

Afternoon all

Any eclairs left? I've only had one piece of cake so far today so I've got some catching up to do.

I'm with Upside, everyone else sounds far too energetic. Having said that, we have a builder in at the moment fitting a new bathroom and refurbing the baby room - finally ripping out hideous fitted wardrobes left over from previous owner. Unfortunately I haven't quite worked out where to put all the stuff we used to keep in them so it's all in a big pile on our bedroom floor. Think I'll just look at it for a few weeks.

Congrats Josey, can I ask where to look at the pic? I would love to have a 3-D scan but haven't quite got around to it...

josey · 03/03/2008 15:56

Any Eclairs left Id love one please and I am very impressed!!

Debs DH got over the dissapointment in the matter of an hour which was good.

Upsidedown she looks very like my DD to me and there is a pic where she is pouting and one where she is flaring her nostrils which DH says looks like me when angry everyone keeps saying she looks like my DH though which I dont see at all.

Jood click on my name and go into my profile pictures you will see it there. I got about 40 pics and a 15mins dvd of her sucking her thumb and flicking the cord.

Aberdeen glad your DS is sleeping ok in his bed, its hard going getting used to a little face waking you up in the morning instead of screams to be lifted
