How lovely HQ - my office hasn't asked me to even go in this week (mind you, I can do without the 6 hour round-trip on train/bus!) - luckily I went in last week to have my own "leaving" lunch with my closest colleagues. Have a sneeky feeling they will re-structure when I'm on ML and I won't have a job to go back to, but will worry about that if/when it happens!

Tori/Glam - I'm local to Farmer Palmers (Bournemouth) - will have to wait until LO arrives I think or I might get strange looks going to see this dish 8 months pg with no kids in tow

Good luck quietone! Hope your OH gets home and all goes well

Paranoid1stTimer · 12/02/2008 15:45

I have done the hypnotherapy cd a couple times but it does say to do it every day and preferably before bed time but for some reason I just can't get organised. My hospital bag is still lying unpacked but with most of the stuff I wanna pack dumped on top of it and I have about 4 days worth of washing still to do. I am just so exhausted and distracted.

I do agree with the "well, it's in there and it has to come out" and that it is only a day or two out of your life AND You know the pain will end unlike when I have previously developed kidney infections which seem to mean excruciating pain with no end in site until the antibiotics kick in and all is forgotten or blanked out.... BUT I still can't convince my mind to agree to the "why waste energy worrying".

I feel ok today though and defo think I am back to the "oh well, you can't avoid the inevitable" and am seeing the MW on Friday again -where she will defo be angry at me for not going to my antenatal classes after all which would probably have helped with the panic attacks!!!- but hey. I'm just trying to go with the flow...

e14mum · 12/02/2008 16:39

Hello. Just up from my most blissful nap!! I haven't had one of those for ages and decided that it was rightfully mine today. So, that means I have:
-been to see mw
-ate lunch
-napped

Phew! A full day's work. DH has gone to Milton Keynes for the day, but has promised to be back for the NCT breastfeeding session tonight.

I had a really nice check-up too. At the birthing centre, and they'd just had a birth about an hour before! I saw the same lovely mw as last time and baby is lying just like I thought, with head 4/5 engaged.

So, back to revisit socks: I have also heard that GAP ones stay on best- but how many pairs will I actually need? 4?6?20? I have 6 already, surely that's more than enough?

So sorry anyone who has feet/bottoms under their ribs. I have to say that being tall IS advantageous here!

Glam, do you have any views on the city farms nearby? We're really close to Stepping Stones and Island Gardens. Any dreamy farmers there?? Hope everything goes well tomorrow

Glammama · 12/02/2008 16:52

LOL e14mum do I know city farms!!!! Does a bear etc......
Stepping stones is fine for a ramshackle local experience. Mudchute is great for feeling you're in the country but I really like Hackney City Farm as they have a great cafe .I think it's more Bethnal Green as it's on the border. We had DD's 4th birthday party there and it was fabulous.
For an edgier experience try Spitalfields Farm off Brick Lane. We've been to loads of free workshops and plays there. Tower Hamlets really is great for kids as there is so much going on.

e14mum · 12/02/2008 16:57

DH and I have been to Hackney City Farm before and I do agree with you that it's lovely. You can buy eggs there too, right? It's not the easiest to get too, but LO and I will make the trip at some point.

Glammama · 12/02/2008 17:06

I think it depends on where you're coming from. It's about a 10 min walk from BG tube and lots of buses go past. I'm so glad you reminded me about the farms as DD's interest has waned in the last year or so. She better rekindle that though . Poor girl. Sometimes I wonder how easy it's going to be to find activities suitable for a 1 year old and a nearly 9 year old.

MumofBilly I wouldn't let not having a child stand in the way of gazing at Farmer Palmer! (I'm not actually sure that is his real name, btw, but he's the owner)

Paranoid1stTimer · 12/02/2008 17:07

e14mum sounds like you're having a great day. Nice when you just have one of those flowing along quite merrily days - especially at this stage!!!

I wish I was a bit taller. I made the mistake of standing in front of our only full length mirror when I got out of the shower earlier and it was like looking at one of those little trolls you used to get for good luck - u know the ones with the crazy hair that sticks right up and the distended bellies?!? Well, I am only about 5ft (and a sniff as Kylie says) so at this point I am AAAALLLLLL baby! Everyone keeps telling me I haven't put on weight apart from the baby (I have been so sick all through this pregnancy lark that is why) but I mean if I put on any more weight I would be like... like... this is old... Does anyone remember the pig like thing at the banquet in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe???? Well, I would kinda look like that. heh heh.

Glammama · 12/02/2008 17:16

I remember what it's like to have feet under the ribs so I do empathise. I just wish this one's feet were under my ribs instead of on my bladder. Please can people send "turning vibes" to East London tonight so I don't have to have the procedure tomorrow morning?

turtle23 · 12/02/2008 17:18

Piggy...yes, that's what it means!! you've got 2/5ths of the head engaged. Means very little, though.
Off to dreaded NCT tonight. Two solid hours of breastfeeding info tonight. How is that humanly possible?

OP posts:
fitnfortyone · 12/02/2008 17:20

paranoid I remember the pig well (played by the lovely peter davison) - just don't go offering a piece of your rump to anyone

Saw kinesiologist today - am going to move bedroom tonight as she tested me positive for water-stress which i suspected was the reason for my lack of sleep the other night when we put the birthing pool up...doesn't affect the giving birth part, but having the bedroom right above all that water plus a lot of drains under the house have skewed my stress levels
Also, LO has decided he's not ready to come out next week as I'd hoped, but very possibly the following week - so maybe he's aiming for 29th to get a special birthday!

Am a bit miffed with DH who's going out with ex-lodger to quiz night tomorrow and has been invited out with same quiz team for curry on friday. Also currently playing footie on Thurs. Have pointed out that it would be nice if he could spontaneously surprise me with something like a meal out what with it being valentines and all, but the thought just wouldn't occur to him in case my hormones were on the wrong setting or was too knackered to appreciate his effort. Which is fine, but he could have suggested it in the first place to see my reaction! Bloomin' men.

turtle23 · 12/02/2008 17:32

Glam...make sure to do a visualisation before you go to bed tonight. Picture him turning and remaining upside down, and tell him he has to stay. (or right side up, if you like) Can't hurt! If not, I wish you all the best for tomorrow and sending turny vibes.

OP posts:
HolidaysQueen · 12/02/2008 17:37

Glam - lots of turning vibes coming from here. Maybe bribe your LO by promising him some fabulous toy if he turns voluntarily

Also, not sure if anyone noticed but Kirst2 posted an update on our dates thread yesterday about Lauren. She is now home from SCBU, so all 3 of our early arrivals are doing well

Glammama · 12/02/2008 17:37

Thanks turtle

If you're mean like me and find people falling over funny look at this thread I take no responsibility for starting people's labour though.

Glammama · 12/02/2008 17:43

and HQ

merryberry · 12/02/2008 18:14

there once was a woman, glammamma
with a thing for poole's farma palma
with hormones a-glowing
and cows a-lowing
'take me now by the udders' she'd stamma

skidoodle · 12/02/2008 19:39

LOL @ merryberry

glamma - sending you lots of turny thoughts for tonight

hi everyone,

I finally got better over the weekend. I had a dreadful week last week and eventually had to start antibiotics to clear up a sinus infection my cold turned into.

Then I went to the next level of the pile sufferers support club. (It's sort of like Scientology of the arse). tori, HQ anyone else, I had no idea how sore they were. Mine was just annoying a bit. But then it got so sore I could barely move and I got preparation H ointment but that just seemed to make it work. it was horrible. A bit better now, TG

I LOVE baby socks. They are the cutest thing ever. We have been washing baby clothes and DH puts the little socks on the sticky-up top bit of the stools. e14 you should get as many as possible, I reckon

Also thequietone and anyone else who might know the answer - isn't it OK to use a cot with a newborn? that's currently my plan. I got a moses basket from a cousin but it's a bit broken and so I thought we'd just use the cot from the beginning. Would a drawer be better ? Oh no I thought I was at least sorted for bed and bedding.

merryberry · 12/02/2008 19:43

i think its just trying to avoid having to lift over the cot rail for night feeds that is wee bit of an arse, especially after a c-section skidoodle, when you're not supposed to lift anything heavier than a teacup for 6 weeks , i remember seeing that co-sleeping nest thing (or a protoype very like) linked to before at a friends house after her 2nd CS, was a godsend for her.

skidoodle · 12/02/2008 20:03

oh right merryberry thanks, that makes sense. Didn't think of the C-section angle. Well mainly because I didn't know about the lifting issues it entailed.

timmyinatizzy · 12/02/2008 20:37

Evening everyone. Had a growth scan today. Junior is doing fine. Is approximately 5lb 11oz at the moment. Lets hope he doesn't get too much bigger!!! I'm 36+3 today and I'm measuring 34 on my fundal height, so it seems as if I'm all baby and not much fluid. It was great getting to see him again, can't wait for the big day to arrive. Looking forward to Day 3 of mat leave tomorrow. Now then what shall I do?

Glammama · 12/02/2008 20:51

Thank you merry for the wonderful poem!!

Glad to hear you're feeling better skidodle

Thanks to everyone for the turny thoughts.

Timmy as regards to what you should do...may I suggest as little as possible.

I've just horrified poor DP who had come into the bedroom to draw some mandalas and have some quiet time to himself by looking at the Falling Over thread, reading bits alouud and laughing so much I had to hold my tummy. DP thinks I'm a terrible person

littleducks · 12/02/2008 21:07

hi everyone, just catching up with new thread but am feeling a bit behind you all am only 34 weeks tomorrow so have a bit of waiting just as well really as house in the middle of a reorganisation!

my mil has really upset me, the baby is breech (well actually tranverse) atm. which isnt a big prob as i have time for it to turn but she keeps asking and i told her that i would have a chance to discuss options at my next antenatal appointment, when she told me some horror story about someone she barely knew (so prob gossip with major bits missing) so i am really worried now.

I know thats really vague but i dont want to scare anybody else as we are all in the same boat! But i wish she had just kept quiet.

Fluffsuptheduff · 12/02/2008 22:49

aah, ducks, always ignore the MIL, unless she's offering you a cup of tea and/or donut.

glam, sending you the strongest turning vibes I can. I was a breech baby turned at ECV and born nice and quickly not long after so I reckon your babe should listen to me...

skid, cots fine from birth but the lifting thing is the issue. if you haven't bought one yet consider the mothercare or cosatto bedside one which totally solves that problem. or knicker drawer, of course.

fit my DH: 'oh, is it valentine's day this week then?'. I'm thinking there's no surprise trip to paris for me in the pipeline...

getting BH like mad - after being desperate to go into labour, I've decided it's not a good plan this week because DH has just started new job on monday and could do with a week or two to settle in, so have placed an order for a baby on or about thursday 21st.

HolidaysQueen · 13/02/2008 08:05

littleducks: i'm only 34 weeks on thursday so you can stick around on this board with me when everyone has long-gone and legged it to the postnatal boards... I think turtle, tori and a few others might be Easter and afterwards as well so we are around.

there was a lady at my antenatal yoga class last night who is nearly 37 weeks and transverse, and they'll be seeing her once she hits 37 weeks to discuss options. So I wouldn't worry about it for the next few weeks as there is still plenty of time for your LO to turn. But if the baby is still transverse then I'm sure the doctors will know exactly what to do. FWIW, it didn't sound like there was anything horrid planned for her, but they just need to take more precautions if baby is still transverse at that stage. Happy to tell you more about what was being discussed last night if you want as it was really informative.

littleducks · 13/02/2008 09:01

I am hoping baby will turn, it does still do somersaults (whereupon my belly starts to look like a scene from a horror movie with protuding limbs waving about) but tends to settle in a tranverse position EVERY TIME.

I think im feeling guilty as with dd i was bouncing away on a birthing ball and doing all the right exercises for optimal fetal positioning from the middle of my pregnancy whereas this time i only got it out the shed a week or so ago and am slobbing on the sofa too much.

skid, i have a cossatto bedside cot and used it from first week baby was born last time as she hated the moses basket.

merryberry · 13/02/2008 09:02

i feel like i'm getting ready for next stage a bit now, boobs are tingling at night and heavier. Had to pee every darned 80 minutes in the night which i suppose means baby really down and crushing bladder now! i also just want to disengage from life really and drift along and not be bothered by stuff. Luckily, that seems to be how my 2.7 yr old trolls through the day, so I think we'll be OK for a day of non-events today!

my mum is coming for a brief visit this weekend, so dp and I can do other stuff as she plays with ds, frighteningly, it will be our last chance.

one of my best mates was over for dinner last night, she's childfree and a barrister and has 12 months booked off sabbatical from July. We were saying how we really appreciate the pleasures of each other's life, but were OK with our own for now...i do envy her her planned 3 months in argentina though!
