I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

TJuice - you have my sympathy re the jeans (and thighs). I hate my seraphine jeans, but I had them taken up before I realised this. I was amazed to get some jeans in New Look - really dark indigo (good for generous thighs), they stay up and they were dirt cheap. I'd never been in New Look before but a friend recommended them and I have to say they're the best ones I've tried.

I'm also trying to get as much as possible pre-mat pay... everyone keeps telling me we dont need to have everything before the baby gets here, but I want to have all the essentials so that I can enjoy my mat leave without worrying too much about finances!

Kaz1967 · 02/03/2008 21:02

TJuice it's been 15 years an I thought I was coping with it but getting pregnant although it is amazing has brought it all back. Hey ho Still not bought a thing for he/she but Mum is busy knitting, and a friend is saving all her baby stuff for me.

As for my own clothes well I am down to 3 skirts that fit not worn trousers for most of this pregnancy as my tummy has been over sensitive all the way through now things are just getting too tight. I think I am going to have to go shopping for me in the next few weeks just so I don't have to go out just wearing my knickers I am already in feeding bras

makecakesnotwar · 03/03/2008 08:20

Tjuice- I have a pair of Seraphine jeans, bought on Ebay thank God, but have excatly the same problem- they fitted in the early days but are designed for skinny size 16s.

Three people called yesterday to wish me a HAppy Mother's Day. How cool to think I'm nearly a mum!!!

MrsHOP · 03/03/2008 10:51

mat dresses off ebay and leggings are the way forward ladies - I bought a couple of pairs of size 16 tall black leggings from top shop (usually a tall 14) and they are really comfy, much easier on the belly than tights or jeans...

How is everyone - my bump has really popped out this w/e, or maybe that was all the food I hoofed down

MissChika · 03/03/2008 10:52

Morning all! Hope everyone is feeling good ...?

Haven't posted for a while and it's taken me an age to catch up on the thread! Am trying not to do too much maternity clothes shopping but ended up going to gap on Thurs and getting a few more tops even though I don't really need them!

Got topshop maternity jeans but as you said TJuice the only shape that seems to suit are the bootleg ones (boo!). I find that they're reasonably comfy though. My sister swears by next mat jeans.

I've got my second scan tomorrow (at last - I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow) and can't wait! DP and I have decided that we're not going to find out the sex though.

TJuice · 03/03/2008 12:35

god, it must be that annoying jess cartner-morley or whatever her name is - her quote on the seraphine website made me think "these jeans may be ok".
i still think H&M are the best. there is also a danish brand (I think) called mamalicious that have 20 quid jeans that are comfy but a little bit frumpy.

good luck with your scan tomorrow, missChika. so disciplined not to find out the sex!

MissChika · 03/03/2008 13:53

Thanks for the good lucks for tomorrow girls! I am v excited but suddenly had a panic when talking to a friend at work about it - worrying about something being wrong. Luckily the moment has passed and I'm all positive again!

Btw, MrsH and NikNak - finally got some dates through from nappylady but they all seem to be during the day. I have your email addresses so will email you the dates.

makecakesnotwar · 03/03/2008 16:30

Yes- good luck Misschika- know what you mean about nerves...I got really worried in the run up to my scan as was on the day I turned 24 weekds. But it was fab, she looked beautiful, perfect, wonderful and I cried with happiness!

Kaz1967 · 03/03/2008 21:05

Great link Tjuice...have a second hand mattress that came with our cot and getting all paranoid over SIDs so may invest in a spanking new one....

Good news with mw- urine came back clean so no threat of glucose tolerance test...yet. SAdly she had run out of the colour-coded vials they need to take my blood so I have to make a special trip to the (get this) delivery suite on Saturday to have them done then...only when results are back will I be free of gestational diabetes. Hurrah! Oh bp and heartbeat all good. CJ 'vaguely' head down though not yet engaged...whatever that means. Not sure I want her enagaged just yet. MW did say that they will see how I go with SPD because if it gets really bad I may want to consider an early induction (secretly am pleased as my mum is arriving at 39 weeks and if they let me go to 42, I may be ready to kill her...)

TJuice · 05/03/2008 10:55

great news, cakes!

so know what you mean about mums. i want my mum to be around but at the same time, i think i need to struggle on my own for the first couple of weeks. then have visitors. maybe that's naive.

i wish we lived in the same country though . . .

Hi... can I join? I'm due on 6th June and am on the June thread too...

bitofadramaqueen · 05/03/2008 13:04

.

MissChika · 05/03/2008 14:44

Hiya everyone!

Welcome to nettiehay and any other newbies.

Well, had my second scan yesterday and all is well with baby. It's one laid back bubba and is very happy cosying up to the placenta so the sonographer had difficulty getting the measurements but got there in the end. Now I feel I can go out and start splurging on babystuff!!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

M x

makecakesnotwar · 05/03/2008 15:17

Hooray Miss Chika...spend, spend, spend!

[makecakes waves at Nettie] nice to see you!

Hey TJ...mothers are a blessing and a curse. Not so sure which categories MILs fit into!! Mine shocked me yesterday by sending me several pink outfits from John Lewis...the first indication she is remotely excited at the prospect of having a granddaughter!

TJuice · 05/03/2008 23:01

i just washed all the baby clothes that i have (its sooo many already) and realised how much pink there is - after i thought pink is too gendered for the liberated feminist girl i will have (yeah right! - i wear pink myself).

am officially a bit obsessed. i think its you, actually cakes. when i heard your plan about getting organised and then chilling, i thought "yes, good idea. spend now while i get full-pay too" but i am buying sooo much these days and i need to pace it over the next few months.
my brother got me a mamas and papas pliko pramette on ebay, so i bought the footmuff thingey. then i bought an organic breast-feeding pillow and spare cover and this baby sleeping bag thingey that everyone has here. then i am going to look at a babydan playpen on friday. its insane.

but on a more normal note - i bought a gorgeous vivienne westwood coat supercheap from this swedish online shop a month ago
(reduced from £800 to £160) and was gutted that it didn't show up. but i heard today that it got returned and its winging its way back to me. so chuffed - love vivienne stuff. am going to wear it even if its baking outside . . .

Congrats on your laundry, Tjuice. I confess I just like smelling clean little baby clothes. The dag has taken to sitting on the piles of baby clothes once ironed! Good bargain on the coat- you need to counteract all the blushworthy purchases (maternity pads and disposable knickers spring to mind) with glam! Otherwise what's the point????

nettiehay · 06/03/2008 09:57

My plan is to wash the baby clothes this weekend - we don't have a lot yet, but I thought I would try and get on top of it now, while I can still bend down to the washing machine!

We are desperately trying to find the money (which should be going on cot/pushchair etc) to fix the back door of the car - it hasn't opened since August and we realised it's the side that the baby seat goes on. So we need to get it fixed before we buy the car seat so that it can get installed correctly.

If any of you are still uncertain as to equipment and buying it, I recommend having a John Lewis Nursery consultation. They take you through all the stuff you need from pushchairs to nursery furniture and bottles and clothes and then you get a Baby list (like a wedding list) so your friends/family can buy things you want. We are using ours as a guide for friends - if they can find it cheaper on the internet they can order it there, but they get the idea of what we want from the list. It's going to come in very handy with overseas family too!

BTW I don't work for John Lewis - I was just v. impressed!

MissChika · 06/03/2008 10:04

Morning!

Eeek, scary girls!! Washing baby clothes already - I haven't got one thing, well apart from a box of cute baby socks some friends bought! I am looking forward to getting some bits and bobs now though.

Thanks for the congrats re scan. It's a relief (which I wasn't expecting to feel as I have been pretty positive about the whole thing) and it now feels much more real along with lots of punching and kicking from the LO!

Nettiehay - love the sound of the nursery consultation and baby list!

TJuice - what is the link to that Swedish online shop you got the Vivienne Westwood coat from?? I have been hankering after one of her coats for yonks but have felt too guilty to spend out for one!!

nettiehay · 06/03/2008 11:02

MissChika - it's a free service, so worth going only so you get the benefit of JL expertise. Thankfully it is no obligation too - as we can't afford to buy it all from JL!
