I was just wondering how many are there of us . . .

I am due end of June and love my antenatal thread as there is so much good advice there but thought it may be nice to share a little with others who are new to this whole thing too.

Anyone interested?

TJuice - I got a new swimming cozzie today that means an unruly bikini wax need be a problem no more!!

www.simplyscuba.com/ProductDetails.aspx?StockID=37057

Suprisingly flattering, stretchy, and, apart from the pink piping (I'm not really one for pink), really quite lovely. Infact, so lovely that I am going to go swimming this afternoon just to try it out

MrsHOP · 25/02/2008 11:54

oooh look at that! I like it Tallbird, might have to get one myself...

TJuice · 25/02/2008 11:56

let me know how you get on tall-bird.
i wondered whether those tankinis ride up when you swim or not.

Hi all,

Have just changed my due date, had 12 week scan on Friday to find all is well and I was actually 12+6 so today I am now 13+2.

7monthsplus - I've added you onto the list as well, hope thats okay. You just need to include which area you live in if you want to

MissChika · 25/02/2008 13:15

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to any newcomers!! This is the first time I've posted in a little while - have been struck down with horrible flu-like virus for the past week. I'm so glad to be feeling so much better now.

Far too many posts for me to catch up on whilst at work so hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their pregnancies so far!!

bitofadramaqueen · 25/02/2008 13:38

TJuice - I hope you get on well with the seraphine jeans; I had real problems with mine as when I wore them in town I was having to hitch them up every couple of steps.

I've now got some New Look ones which are a perfect fit.

For anyone trying on mat jeans for the first time - I'd really recommend having a good walk around the shop/your house with them on before taking off tags etc to make sure that they dont fall down. I wish someone had told me that before I had my first expensive mat jeans shortened that are now wasting away in my drawers...

HelenCS - if you're planning on waiting till your 5 months gone, the one thing you should think about is that you wont get a risk assessment. I'm office based but its amazing the things I need to think about - e.g. just getting someone to lift down a heavy box of paper from the stationary cupboard. Also, you're entitled to paid leave for ante-natal appointments, which you wont be able to take if they dont know.

This link should give you all the info you need about your rights to maternity pay etc.

MrsHOP · 25/02/2008 14:35

misschika you're back! hooray! was wondering where you'd got to - hope you are feeling better, sounds horrible?

anyone know which gap & new look sell mat gear in London, I have been to a few but get met with blank looks...

xx

MissChika · 25/02/2008 15:01

Hey MrsH - it was indeed horrible but all better now (apart from croaky voice!).

Gap on High St Kensington sells maternity clothes in the basement. Not sure about New Look though - prob one of the bigger stores on Oxford St.

tallbirduk · 25/02/2008 16:34

Back from the gym and pleased to report the tankini was great.

The pants didn't fall down, the top didn't ride up, it was v. comfy, didn't make me look too much like a beached whale - all in all - a success!

Also is v. stretchy (but not so much that it is too baggy) so plenty of growing room all over.

KJacko · 25/02/2008 17:07

Hi All

First timer - due 30th May. Being pregnant is a strange thing isn't it! Baby boy (which I think we are going to call Zac) is kicking constantly. Nursery is done - too gorgeous and my mother has already filled his wardrobe! Still need to get Sterlisers, breast pumps, bottles, bath (I only have a shower in my house), moses basket, pram and baby bouncer.

Am starting not to sleep very well as my lovely husband has recently devloped a snore and I don't know where to put my bump anymore - nothing seems comfortable. I also need to invest in new bras as I am bursting out of these new ones and can't wait to get home and let them loose!

All that said, I love being pregnant. Do you guys find that strangers smile at you more? My husband seems to think its the new breast size, but women do it too!

My only real pain is work - I just want to finish now, but still have 10 weeks left!! tedious

Love to all bumps

Kxx

carrieHD9 · 25/02/2008 23:16

Hi all, welcome to new people!

Have to say I went to Mothercare today, and whilst not being the most stylish was definately the best fitting of anything I've tried on so far... think comfort may win over fashion in the end!

Kaz1967 · 26/02/2008 00:56

Another first timer Bump due 18 July and I will be nearly 41

newtoallofthis · 26/02/2008 17:05

Hi there,

Can I join? I am pregnant with my first - due October 24th and quietly hoping that everything goes well over the next few weeks (It is such early days!)

MrsHOP - New Look in Kingston-on-Thames (In the Bentall Centre) sells a good range of Maternity clothes. I know that because of my pregnant friends - not because I have needed maternity clothes yet

TJuice · 26/02/2008 17:13

welcome freshers!

is anyone else just inundated with baby-related info to the point of saturation? or is it just me?

i spent sunday with my friend who just had a baby. 4 months ago, she was a novice, like me and now she's such a bloody sage about the whole thing. maybe its just my own self-doubt but no-body ever says "I don't know what the hell i am doing most of the time - i am just winging it!"

i wonder if i will be this all-knowing sauvant, in 5 months time.

somehow i doubt it.

its my own fault. i spend so much time researching and asking questions and reading books and magazines all about babies.

i need to read novels, watch films and stop filling my head up, at least for a while.

that reminds me, i want to see Juno this weekend.

OP posts:
MrsHOP · 26/02/2008 17:27

I must admit, the only place I have been gleaning info from is MN and the occasional (sane) mate or work colleague - any books, mags or super-helpful/informative mums just send me into brain meltdown.

I am hoping that there only so much info a person can absorb, and all us first-timers will be crapping our pants and winging it big time no matter how much we read/how many babies we have access to etc...

Mind you, there is a tiny voice in the back of my head telling me I should be more prepared and knowledgable about all this.

pigleychez · 26/02/2008 17:28

Hello to everyone and welcome to our newcomers

I understand about becoming overwhelmed sometimes.
After wandering around a HUGE Mothercare on sunday, i came home feeling confused about what to buy, what was the best etc.

I saw Juno last week and didnt think much of it,Made pregnancy and birth look easy which i didnt think was the right message to be sending to all the teenage girls watching it. But thats my opinion- you might think different.

MrsHOP · 26/02/2008 17:31

oooh thanks for that newtoallthis, company I work for has a shop in Kingston so I might be able to create a reason for visiting there! I've heard good things about New Look mat gear.

Parofleurmapu · 26/02/2008 17:32

Hello Due 3rd June with baby girl. Im 28 living in sunny gran canaria although its pissing down with rain at mo!!

Finding pregnancy fun but a funny experience.

Oh and pigleychez im also a nursery nurse and wondering how long ill last as am 27 weeks and already job is proving to be hard work

pigleychez · 26/02/2008 17:47

Hi Parofleurmapu,

Im 20 weeks and get soo tired after a day at work! I intend to leave at about 30 weeks and just hoping i make it that far!

When are you leaving?

pigleychez · 26/02/2008 17:50

Just worked it out- Ill be 31 and half weeks when i leave but thats with 2 weeks holiday before maternity leave starts.

Parofleurmapu · 26/02/2008 18:05

not sure yet i will be 30 weeks in the easter hols so going to work til then then maybe see how im doing and go back after easter when i will be 32 weeks and see what i feel like! My replacement is starting before easter to get used to things and as relief cover etc so maybe i could swap roles for a while. We shall have to see. I also have high blood pressure which is ok at mo but that might stop me earlier.

Its the being on my feet all day and the little chairs that kills me!! But the kids make it worth while Ihave some that come up and kiss the bump or hug it and say hello. Others want to know when i will let it come out and play with them!!!

pigleychez · 26/02/2008 18:38

I completely agree about the kids. They have been so sweet! Also asking when its coming out and guessing if going to be a boy or girl baby.
They have been choosing names for me too. if its a girl apparently its Dora and if its a boy its Deiago- Both from cartoon Dora the explorer.

One new litle girl cracked me up last week though...a group of chldren and I were talking about baby when she stopped, looked at my bump with a confused look on her face, then promptly moved to the other side of the table, giving me strange looks! very funny!

Is it just me or does everyone thing that because your a nusery nurse your going to be a brilliant mum and it will so easy for you?- No pressure!!

Parofleurmapu · 26/02/2008 20:26

yep thats true. And apparently i know everything too!! Dp also works with little ones too he is a nursery assistant but people dont realise that we know alot from 2 upwards and although ive studied 0 3 and worked a bit its new territory for us both!

PregnantPenguin · 26/02/2008 20:31

TJuice - the advice I got from a friend who's LO is just coming up to one is don't read any books! Too late for me. However I know that it's not going to be as easy as the books say...[hmmm]

This isn't going to be 'right I've read all the books, I'm ready' the way I am hoping. But I think that's why I'm reading so much, it gives me a false illusion of knowing what I'm doing when in fact I have no idea!

Looks like I'm off to Kingston this weekend then. Thank you NewtoAll..
