twin pushchairs

I am expecting DC2 in April by which time DD will be 2.5. She has a endancy to run off so I have decided I need a buggy for both. I quite like the Phil and Teds other than the seat behind is low to the ground and they are quite expensive once you factor in the rain covers. etc. Also no where to hang a bag?

I have seen this clever looking buggy on ebay which is basically not much bigger than a normal buggy bit has 2 seats. I dont think the baby can go in it until 3 months though which wouldnt be so good. I really dont want to be carrying a baby in a sling for 3 months.

I have heard the tandom style buggies are very long and cumbersome.

The twin buggies where they are next to each other would be tricky as I need something that fits through a door.

Anyone got any recommendations?

I used a tandom one many years ago when I was a mother's help, and found that the older child goes in the front so the weight is all there, making it hard to get it up on to the kerb. I have also used 2 side by sides and they aren't as wide as you would think.

We've got the Instep Nipper Out N about which is a side by side, suitable from birth to about 4 years. Narrow enough to fit through most doorways and an absolute DREAM to push, it's so light. They are about £300 new but there are always loads on ebay for about £100.

hi I had 18 months between my DDs and will have 2 1/2 years between DD2 and DB3 so am on the look out for another double. I think I am going to get a Phil and Teds this time I should have got one the last time but DP talked me out of it re the second seat.

I had a M&P Twin Aria which was rubbish. With two you need a buggy with big wheels essentail for bumping up even little kerbs. The seats weren't big enough, cosy toes didn't fit it, hard to open and close, shopping basket was broken after a week. Hated it.

Also had a Graco tandem it was a bit better than the Aria but still not that great, much better at kerbs but felt like you were pushing a train at times. Newborn can lie flat in the back though.

Thing I like about the P&T is that the baby will be safe in the back for a few months and by the time they are ready for the second seat DD2 might be able to walk for short distances so you have an extra seat if you need it but don't have a strapping big double. Also resale value is very good on P&Ts

out n about nipper is a brilliant double pushchair.

crokky · 20/11/2007 16:59

Do any of the good double pushchairs have the baby facing you? I don't really mind which way the toddler faces, but would prefer baby facing me? Sorry for hijack!

hazygirl · 20/11/2007 17:03

the graco one you can put car seat on so you can c your little one

Hi, i've got a little man who's 13 months and a little princess who's 11 weeks and i wouldn't be without my Jane Powertwin.
It's a double 3 wheeler buggy, 1 in front of the other and to start with you can put the carseat on it facing you. As they get older you can discard the car seat and they sit both facing forward 1 in front of the other.
It has a swivel front wheel and a brake on the handle and it's soooo light to push.
It comes with a pump for the tyres and raincover.
The only downside i've found so far is that with my little man being so young still he likes to sleep in his buggy and if the car seat is on there his seat won't recline so he's falling asleep upright and falling to one side which looks very uncomfortable.
Other than that it's brill!

Agree with sweetkitty - do not get a M&P twin aria - absolute rubbish. Would quite happily throw it in a skip . I decided to go back to my Mcclaren with a buggy board which dd1 loves - she was two when we started using it. Wish I had bought a McClaren twin though, but too late now! From everything I've heard Phil and Teds are the best but too pricey for me. As I am pg again, I will have to revive the twin aria I think - aaaaaaaaahhhh!

beepbeep · 30/12/2007 20:16

have DD who is now 13months, but will be 19 months when pop with next, so have decided to go for P&T. Have Jane at mo which is brilliant and looked at tandem, have feeling madam isn't going to want to be in it for long so didn't want to be stuck with a double and only one in it! So P&T seems to have best of both worlds - understand that the new P&T has raised the back seat and made some other alterations, have used one and seems very functional in comparison with comfy Jane, but think it's going to be the best for what we want (SIL has one and she thinks it's great).

Hi

I am buying a Phil and Teds for my first one the rave recommendation of two friends who both used them with a newborn and a toddler. When we had flooding here in Oxford on of them even came through ankle deep water with both bubbas keeping dry!

Dragonhart · 02/01/2008 20:00

I have Bebe Confort Twin Club and I love it. The seats can both face either way, you can use a car seat in it, and I had the carrycot too which was lovely for the first few months. It says 6 months+ but it goes flatter than a lot of the from birth ones I tried and next time I will use it from birth with a foot muff. Now DD the buggy as a single and ds goes on the foot plate like a buggy board.

Upsides: Children can both face you, huge basket, very adaptable, lovely to push esp if you are tall as the handle height is adjustable, heavier/older child goes at the back (nearest you) so not too hard to bump up curbs, fitted on the disabled buses fine as a double

Downsides: Quite expencive (although you can get them from ebay), rather heavy to lift into a car (wasn't a problem for me as I dont have a car in the day with them), not all that small when folded, they dont sell it in shops here so you jave to order it online

TBH I found that both types of doubles have their plus and minus points. DS is heavy so in a side by side, it is hard to push as I have to push one side more than the other. Also I always end up kicking the middle wheels when I am walking. Tandems take a bit of getting used to swinging out when you turn. At the end of the day you are pushing around two children so it is never going to be eay is it?!
