Due in December hoping for a home birth

I know it's late in the day and there are loads of other December threads but I felt shy jumping into very established threads so thought I would start another one!

I'm due 7th of December and really hoping for a home water birth.

It suddenly all seems very close and I flit between apprenhension and major excitement at meeting the baby and finding out the sex.

Anyone else out there hoping for a home birth? Any tips on preparation for home birth from those of you who have already done it?

Cheers! Mellymooks

i had a home birth with the second of my little darlings....she's now 18mths and i swear i wish i could go back to that night it was so amazing!!! all i had in the form of preparation was a waterproof sheet (basically just a waterproof dust sheet from B&Q) and a few old towels for mopping with and some new ones for baby when she arrived. i felt so in control, and she was only just within the timeframe for a homebirth being 13 days early!! the midwife came when i wanted her to, i was happy in the comfort of my own home, and i managed to deliver her in 6hrs with no pain relief at all and 45mins after giving birth me my hubby and our beautiful baby girl were tucked up in bed getting to know each other!! and a few hours later her big brother woke up and came to meet her (how he slept through i'll never know!!!- the neighbours didn't!!)

i reccomend it to anyone!!! good luck!!xxx

Thank you!! So lovely to hear a fantastic experience.
I am getting really fed up with people's negative reactions to me choosing to have a home birth, most mums to be I have met where I live are planning to have their babies at the local maternity hospital which support/medical intervention wise is no different from me staying at home, yet they make me feel like I'm choosing to do something really outrageous!!

So it's great to hear some positivity for a change!!

I am due the 3rd Dec and am having (hopefully if blood pressure allows it) a home water birth...my 1st one, although had my 2nd daughter at the pool at the hosptal. You should join the due in dec thread - we are all very friendly.

Glaskham
I'm glad you said that about the plastic sheeting from B&Q, I've bought some too. Am due on 2nd Dec and planning a home birth. Have also got a fitted plastic sheet for the bed. Great to hear about your good experiences.

I'm sure I'll annoy the neighbours too, oh well, can't be helped.

well my then 15.5m son slept right through it!! but the neighbours kids didnt and went to their mum saying 'she's having a baby mum, she really is'!! she didn't believe them and told them to go back to bed, but then a week later when she saw me with her she told me the story and felt bad.....but at the same time said i should have knocked and she would have come to help out!!- shame she moved, she was lovely!!!

glaskham · 08/11/2007 11:51

oh and the dust sheet and 2 towels was all i needed, my waters luckily broke as i was sat on the loo, but there wasn't any mess and guts about my bedroom. i was nowhere near prepared either- the midwife had only just been the day before to set me up at home for the birth!!!

beller · 08/11/2007 11:56

Hi everyone, im due 28th Dec with my first and im booked for a homebirth too! Im like you mellymooks, bit fed up with all the negetive reactions to where im planning to give birth. When i tell them about the research I have done, they back down a bit..but great to see their faces
I must admit being my first i do feel some apprenhension, but that would be where ever i was!
Really hope we all manage to have the births we would like, but just have to keep an open mind xxxxxx

Wizzska · 08/11/2007 11:57

Glaskham - poor you at no preparation time. I hope my boy gives me a bit of time to myself before he puts in an appearance. I haven't seen a homebirth midwife yet, not til next week when I'll be 37+3.

glaskham · 08/11/2007 14:15

i also have to add all the homebirth midwives i saw were SOOOOO much nicer and happier than when they are in the hospital!!!- i hope you all have experiences just as good as mine was!! and keep me posted!!! xxx

glaskham · 08/11/2007 14:17

oh beller my son was due on the same date you are, but he came early too on the 21st dec....he will be 3 in a few weeks- my how the time flies!!!

beller · 08/11/2007 14:23

Glaskham.. i hope babybel does too! x

mellymooks · 08/11/2007 18:12

Hi everyone, I've been having really strong braxton hicks today and the baby has been moving differently than I've felt it before. Hope it's not going to start yet as it would be too early for me to be at home, I need another week to pass before i go into labour!!!
I guess I'l have no choice though eh?!
I think you're right Beller that we can hope for the birth that we want but have to keep an open mind as you never know what will happen.
I keep reading that the baby will get less wriggly but that doesn't seem to be the case for me I swear I've got the nex Bruce Lee in here!
