Short cervix panic after mmc

Hi all
I had a missed miscarriage 8 weeks ago and went through a d and c. I am having tough days still and anxiety a lot. It's made worse by the fact that my consultant confirmed that she thinks my cervix is very short, less than 1 cm, although this is based on visual assessment whilst conducting the procedure. She said I will need a stitch but seemed quite relaxed about this. The length is worrying me massively as I can't see much other than advice saying under 2.5 cm is short. So I am looking for advice frkm any women with a very short cervix who have had successful pregnancies.

I am terrified that as well as grieving my loss, I might never have a successful pregnancy due to a short cervix. Any advice welcome. Thank you all in advance

Hey there,

I’m sorry for your loss 😔 and I understand your anxiety.
I’ve recently found out I have a v-short cervix and have spoken about my experience with a cervical cerclage: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3862338-Cervical-stitch-14-weeks

They won’t be able to tell for sure until you have a transvaginal ultrasound. They will take three measurements and I think report/act on the shortest.
Please keep in mind the cervix is dynamic.
I believe my cervix was naturally short, prior to the LLETZ treatment that prompted them to measure, as I had a very fast and easy Labour with my daughter and painless dilation (a sign), nothing was mentioned then.

The consultants seem to really believe in the efficacy of preventative cerclage - they’ve told me I’m ‘as good as new’ and to ‘not do anything differently’ - I am however quite anxious and taking it easy,

If you do a key word search of ‘short cervix’ you’ll find old threads with lots of reassurance.

At least now, if it is short, they will be able to act appropriately in your future pregnancies.

Wishing you all the best ❤️

Thank you so much for your response. It's always good to hear success stories. I can totally understand your need to take it easy, I would be exactly the same! Thanks for sharing your link xx
