SPD appears to be getting better - I can walk up and down stairs normally now, but very tired after about 100 yards. Bit hard to tell what is SPD and what is birth though - I feel like I've fallen and landed on my tailbone, so need to sit on a cushion! I can get up and down a bit better, mainly using stomach muscles, so very glad I avoided a cs.
Went to local shops on Friday and today we went to Homebase to buy more pillows (I need 3 non-slidy ones to feed, and with three rooms to feed in plus people staying over...), a couple battery-op push-on night lights (forget the baby waking up too fully in the night, you will hate bright light at 4am, and I can't reach some of our lamps), a bin with lid for the bathroom (maternity pads...), and a new kettle as ours died yesterday. And a shelf to go across the bath, so I don't need to worry about dropping my mobile in the water...
at some point I'll write up my top tips for birth, but rest assured that our care at Georges during labour/delivery/recovery was faultless, daytime postnatal care was good, and the nighttime postnatal care was OK, just make sure you keep ringing the bell. And if you're on medication when you arrive, make sure you tell them that you'll need it the minute you go to the postnatal ward.
I know lots of you are planning homebirths (and I was considering it) but the MLU where I spent 8 hours was fantastic - peaceful, big pool, lovely 2-tier beanbag, en suite bathroom, plus my 3 partners and a friendly midwife. It was actually quite fun until my joints fell apart and we had to transfer me downstairs (if I'd been at home we'd have had to go to hospital at that point).
