Best advice I got (apart from all the obvious stuff) was flip flops for the shower; old towel you don't care about for the same; and, Dettol wipes or similar for the loo seats in case the previous user has left stuff on there you don't want (yes, I ended up wiping blood off one of the ones I had to use the first time round - eeeek emoticon!).

Ahh yes the maternity pads are a lot softer than the standard sanitary pads but when I'd had the c section and no stitches, I was able to switch to normal pads iyswim?

Take nipple cream in with you - I look Lasinoh and it was great for when my nipples started to get sore from the breastfeeding

Try and take a box of food in for when you go into the ward - my Mum left her snack box she'd taken in for my labour for me to pick at once we were admitted to Maternity and I ate everything that night, including a not-quite ripe enough pear. I was starving - and I suddenly had a stomach again instead of a small gap which my baby couldn't quite fill.
