Pregnancy and chronic high blood pressure

Hi All
I am 8 weeks + pregnant and I would like to hear from anybody who have gone through successful pregnancies despite their chronic high blood pressure. I was diagnosed with chronic high blood pressure (got it from my dad who has been on medication since early 30s!) despite being healthy and doing lots of running, cycling and swimming, i have high blood pressure so I have been on medication for now 5 years. I am 40 and pregnant with my first child now...I am over the moon but terrified too. I am on Methyldopa 250mg (twice three times a day) and I am not sure what my readings are now and GP scares me saying I need to be closely monitored...do any of you have had successful pregnancies despite this? It means a lot to me if it goes well...Thanks.

Yes, my two adult children are just fine and dandy! They are 19 and 22, and I had to take Methyldopa throughout both pregnancies for very high blood pressure.

You should probably expect to have consultant-led care, and probably you won't have a home birth, and you might be induced early - mine were at 35 and 37 weeks - but honestly, they were fine. A little jaundice, which righted itself, and a two-day hospital stay for us all, but all ok.

Sending you good wishes 💐
