NHS antenatal classes - disappointing?

Hey guys. I’m due with my first baby at the end of July. I moved to Birmingham last summer after getting married and due to bad hyperemesis for the first few months, prevented me from getting work and meeting new people.

Anyway I registered to the NHS antenatal classes and was really excited to start them yesterday, as my DH couldn’t come with me, I was happy to go by myself and thought might also be a good way to meet other mothers - to - be.

However I came out feeling very disappointed. When researching before I’m sure these classes are suppose to be 2 hour classes on a 5week cycle, but the class was literally 30minutes. They spoke briefly and asked us a couple of questions but due to the heat in the room it ended after only half an hour. Is this normal for NHS classes? I hadn’t heard of NCT classes before but see them discussed here.

Any advice or someone that felt similar and has any advice on these classes or others, would be really appreciated!

I think it really depends on your area :( there are lots of lovely Antenatal classes around though not just NCT. Try looking up daisy foundation xx

@Karma7 in my first pregnancy there were no antenatal classes locally to me. Eventually the local midwives did a single 1hr session due to pressure from the Mothers to be but it was pretty much a waste of time as they didn't do any breathing techniques it was just discussion of what your body does in labour and telling us other resources to look at. This was 6 years ago though so I'm hoping that things have changed a bit, if not I'll be looking online.
