just wondering if there are any other mum's who have had a prenatal talipes diagnosis? I'm currently 24 weeks and found out baby had unilateral talipes fairly early, in fact, at my 12 week scan. How's everyone feeling/preparing post diagnosis?

Hi Mixxy

We had bilateral Talipes in our daughter diagnosed in the 20 week scan. Both feet and hands for her.. We did end up having amniocentesis and an array cga done to make sure there were no other issues.
In terms of the talipes, the consultant decided that a caesarian was the safest option in terms of deliver.

Post natally they had a better look at the condition.. We ended up going down the ponseti route which was casting and a smaill operation to free the tendons, followed by boots and bars.

It's a well trodden path and also a lot of research has been done.

I would recommend joining the following facebook page if you need a bit of support

Also which part of the country are you in? We were very well look ed after by Croydon University Hospital, King College and the amazing staff at the dragon Centre in St Georges in Tooting.

Hi, I found out at my 20 week scan my daughter had bilateral talipes. I was given an appointment to see the orthopaedics whilst pregnant and they talked me through what would happen after I had her. I had a very normal easy labour, although they kept a close eye on me during pregnancy for a few unrelated issues. I did lots of research and had it in my head I wanted the treatment (ponseti method) started as soon as she was born, but they kept putting it off until I put my foot down and had a little strop. I had it in my head that I didn’t want her to get used to life without the casts then struggle with adjusting to life with them, I was probably just being silly but at the time it made sense. The treatment was straightforward, casts every week then boots and bars. My understanding is that most have to have the tenotomy, but we were lucky and my daughter didn’t need it. Please try not to worry too much.

Dd2 had talipes in one foot, she is perfectly fine now, we’re on the last year of boots and bar and you really wouldn’t know/guess to look at her! We are seen by Birmingham Children’s who are fantastic
