I hope no one minds me starting us up a post-natal group for the flurry of babies that have arrived! It's over here...

PingusMistress · 05/10/2017 06:57

Brilliant news! Congratulations @KitKatSplat and @ButterflyGem !

Loving the birth stories too kitKat and @wapsmahoney . You both did so well to get to 6cm at home with no pain relief. Kitkat Two hours of pushing is rock hard - I did an hour last time (before they decided it was ventouse time) and that was bad enough! Waps did your waters break in the pool? I often wonder what happens in that situation, do you stay in or get out?

Good luck for today @TheLionQueen1

Thanks for setting up the new thread @Nessalina , I'm off to lurk but it will probably be about three weeks before I can join properly! Glad you will be here to keep me company @Bobbiepin Grin

TheLionQueen1 · 05/10/2017 06:58

Thank you @PingusMistress !

mrsbumblebees · 05/10/2017 07:35

Oh wow - I can't keep up, huge congratulations to everyone who has had their babies, and thank you so much for sharing your stories. It's great to hear some positive ones, I know it will be different for everyone and no one can predict how it will be for them, but it really is encouraging, especially for us first timers who have no idea what to expect.

38 weeks here and first day of mat leave for me today!

How is everyone else finding the wait? I'm so impatient already, it feels like it's never going to happen!

Bobbiepin · 05/10/2017 07:42

@mrsbumblebees impatient doesn't even cover it. Any little twinge and I think its all starting. I'm only just 37 weeks and haven't even finished work yet so I could probably do with some time to get the cot built etc!

PingusMistress · 05/10/2017 07:49

I alternate between impatience and "no no no I'm not ready yet!" Grin I'm not finishing work until next Friday.

I have a scan this morning to see if baby pingu is still breech. Fingers crossed for a somersault.

mrsbumblebees · 05/10/2017 07:49

I'm just the same Bobbiepin, and I haven't even had that many twinges to get excited about!! I'm not actually "ready" (still have loads of washing, cleaning, sorting to do, hospital bag only half packed) but I don't care - I'm so desperate to meet baby right now!! I have a feeling I'm going to go right to the end as well! Argh!

mrsbumblebees · 05/10/2017 07:51

Oooh good luck for today pingusmistress! Fingers crossed for you Smile

TippetyTapWriter · 05/10/2017 09:16

Congratulations butterfly and kitkat! And thanks for sharing another positive birth story. I know (from experience!) that every birth is different and doesn't always go to plan but it's so reassuring to hear that actually it might just go ok. Fingers crossed for all of us still waiting.

I'm nearly 39 weeks and baby's movements are still really erratic. Is anyone else the same? I'm guessing no pattern is my baby's pattern if that makes sense as everything is always fine at scans and midwife appointments. But sometimes I hardly feel anything, other days I get an hour or so of painfully strong movements. And this morning, though I hardly ever feel much in the morning, she seems to be trying to escape through the top of my bump! I think she must be getting fed up in there. There can't be much room left. Hopefully she'll decide to make an exit before she grows too much bigger. It also feels like she's moved up instead of down Confused. Will see what midwife says tomorrow!

Good luck pingusmistress for your scan and to lion if you're getting induced x

mummabubs · 05/10/2017 09:20

Oh my, many, many updates!

Massive congratulations to you Butterfly and KitKat, so exciting for you both!!!

Hope today's scan shows a head down little penguin Pingu, I spent a few hours in hospital the other night as midwife thought Bubbabean had done their flip trick again but by the time I was seen 3 hours later they'd gone head down again(!)

And bumble, I'm the dictionary definition of impatient at the moment! 39+5 and very, very ready for things to start happening!! 🙈

mummabubs · 05/10/2017 09:23

And @TippetyTapWriter for what it's worth Bubbabean has never really had "patterned" movements either, I'd say more like odd hours of lots of movements followed by periods of quite. During my hospital trip they stuck me on a monitor for an hour whilst these erratic movements were coming/going on off and no one seemed at all concerned when I said I don't think they have a routine as such. I think if they were to suddenly have lots more or less movements you'd instinctively know if you get what I mean? X

mummabubs · 05/10/2017 09:23

*quiet

mrsbumblebees · 05/10/2017 09:28

Definitely erratic movements here too tippetytapwriter! Has been all along for me!

GimbleInTheWabe · 05/10/2017 11:39

Ahh 2 gorgeous new babies! Congrats @KitKatSplat and @ButterflyGem. Thanks for sharing your story @KitKatSplat, that sounds like a really positive experience.

Good luck for an upside down baby today @PingusMistress! FX.

I’m really getting impatient now... 40+3 and expecting to probably have to wait for another week or so. I know I need to just stay positive and enjoy this time but I just reaaaaallly want to meet my baby already!! Ok enough sulking for now.

Any update @TheLionQueen1? Hope they have space for you today.

And thanks for me new thread, will hopefully be joining shortly!!

TheLionQueen1 · 05/10/2017 11:43

@GimbleInTheWabe I'm in assessment now definitely got a bed for me here, they are moving me over soon but haven't been checked regarding pessary or water breaking yet, fingers crossed it all happens soon!

TheLegendOfBeans · 05/10/2017 11:46

Babies ahoy!

I'm technically two weeks off due date but feel super periody and I have sore legs too; like I've been working my inner thighs at the gym (I haven't).

Had a fair sleep last night and was back to bed at 10am after dropping DD at nursery.

I wonder - really wonder - if things are going to kick off for me spontaneously. That would be exciting.

Unlikely seeing as DD came at 42w but still....

PingusMistress · 05/10/2017 12:03

I have an upside down baby, yay!

Still sat waiting to see the consultant though, nearly an hour later...

GimbleInTheWabe · 05/10/2017 12:13

Yay that’s great @PingusMistress! Looks like baby finally got the memo, now stay south little One!

Glad they’ve got you in @TheLionQueen1, today really could be the day!!

Sounds exciting @TheLegendOfBeans, best thing to do now is start that really long, important task you have to finish asap, then baby really will decide to come and interrupt!

PingusMistress · 05/10/2017 12:49

Spoke too soon - my blood pressure is high so I'm now strapped up to a monitor. One problem swapped for another! My phone is running out of battery and I'm bored out of my brain!

Nessalina · 05/10/2017 13:04

Great news about the flip though pingu!! Hopefully the blood pressure is something that they can resolve/monitor and isn't an issue. At least now you know they're the right way round you've got a good chance of things being straight forward for the birth Smile

thepotatoesofdefiance · 05/10/2017 14:35

Pingus hurray for upside down baby! Hope your blood pressure starts behaving itself.

Congratulations Kitkat and Butterfly! I am enjoying reading all the updates and birth stories while endlessly bfing on the sofa (my milk has come in and he's making the most of it!) so thought I would contribute my own, which was really everything I could have hoped for.

I was thoroughly fed up on Sunday morning as I'd been sure I would have the baby in September and failed to do so! I started to feel mild contractions at midday (but had these on and off for a week so I wasn't convinced they were real). Sat down to a nice family lunch during which they continued every 5 minutes and I began to find it uncomfortable to sit down. We pottered for a bit, I had a shower and then quickly scoffed some of the nice cake DH had bought from the bakery so I wouldn't miss out (in previous labours I couldn't eat a thing once labour was in full swing, although weirdly this time I was hungry throughout). The contractions were getting stronger and closer until they were about 3 minutes apart, so I thought 'yep this is definitely it'! so we got the room and pool set up, gave the kids some new story and sticker books to keep them busy and they were in and out of the room for a while (DS1 laughed at me for making funny noises during contractions but was very sweet holding my hand and passing me my water bottle). This bit was all very manageable and lasted about 3 hours, although I couldn't bear to sit /kneel down and had to stand and move all the time (most comfortable was standing leaning on DH's shoulders). We called the midwife at 3ish to ask her to come and check progress (I still wasn't sure it was doing much as the pain was very manageable at this point). At 3.45 she hadn't arrived yet, kids had just gone upstairs to watch TV when I had a strong contraction and my waters went. Immediately things got intense and very painful so I got in the birth pool and felt the urge to push straightaway. Midwife luckily arrived a few minutes later, I had 5 or so contractions and at 16.02 he was born in the pool. This last bit was really intense as the pain didn't really ease between contractions, more so than my previous labours, but was over in under 15 minutes so can't complain! Baby didn't cry at first and just blinked up at me, then a slightly worrying moment where the midwife had to encourage him to spit up some gunk as he wasn't breathing, but only momentary then he gave one big cry and was fine. DH called the kids who ran downstairs to see us (still sat in the pool), so it must have been less than 5 minutes after the birth they got to meet their brother and were both so excited, it was really lovely! I got out of the pool to deliver the placenta and DS1 cut the cord then DS3(!) latched on and had a nice long feed while we all had a family cuddle on the sofa. After the slightly annoying week of build up it was all over and done with in 4 hours, conveniently between lunch and dinner time on Sunday afternoon! No stitching required either.

I know how very lucky I am to have had such a good birth experience but posted in the hope it helps others still waiting to feel positive! Fingers crossed for more babies tonight / tomorrow.

PingusMistress · 05/10/2017 14:39

I did some hypnobirthing breathing and got my blood pressure down, so they have let me come home under strict instructions to go back in if I get any dizziness, lights, etc. I was a bit nervous for a bit as the same thing happened to my friend and she ended up getting induced the same day for pre-eclampsia! I have to go back in on Tuesday for more checks. Next time, I will make sure I take a book and some snacks. Phew, I'm very glad to be home!

Bobbiepin · 05/10/2017 14:53

potatoes that's a wonderful story, congratulations on DS3!

Great news Pingu, no going off and getting induced early please, we're meant to be here together until the end of the month!

Nessalina · 05/10/2017 15:07

What a fantastic story potatoes - it's so fab that there's been some lovely stories, I hope it's reassuring for those of you still to have your babes Smile
