Is NCT worth it?

I'd like to do some NCT classes not only because I'm a first time mum but I'd like to
Make friends with other mum's - I'm the first of my friends to be pregnant and when I'm on mat leave I'd love to hang out with some friends who are in the same boat.

An NCT course is £300 - is it worth it? Would love to know about other people's experiences.

Just realised I said "make new friends with babies" and I meant "other parents with babies". Oh dear, baby brain.

No. Luck of the draw if you get a good bunch of people to make friends with!

Although I was pre WhatsApp etc so maybe easier to stay in contact now.

Yes absolutely worth it. Our NCT sessions were in Dec 2011 and we are all still in touch and I'm sure all in my group would agree that it's been fantastic to have such a lovely support network since. I also went to my local NHS classes and found the NCT ones so much better - there was much more of a focus on how relationships need to cope/adapt in the early days, scenarios that could be viewed differently from a husband's/wife's perspective, as well as strategies to use in labour (for a natural birth). The NHS class simply focused on pain relief and there was no opportunity to talk to other couples.
