I have been in hospital three days had the gel three times started contractions they lasted 15hours but baby never engaged and i never dilated.
Three days in i am exhausted and in pain (due to existing medical condition playing up)
I want to request a section but doctor is keen to break my waters (dont see how when 2 cm with an unfavourable cervix)

Ive had enough though im exhausted in pain and just want to opt for a section.

Has anyone managed to make the doctor see your point of view or does the moms health never come in to their decision

You're going to have to insist. Is there anyone there with you who cam advocate for you? Refuse to let them break your waters. They can't do it if you don't consent.

It would appear they have to go through the pros & cons with you before YOU decide - that's what happened for me. See NICE guidelines:

Was supposed to have seen my doc at 8am to discuss options then got moved to 12 amd now sometime later today. Got told last night dont eat or drink incase but now been told by the midwives through a game of chinese whispers to eat and drink.
But dont want to as it will effect me been allowed a csection amd until ive seen my doctor i dont want to.
But feels like they are telling me off for making myself ill when they just dont understand the medical condition i have

This happened to me.
I refused anymore examinations, asked what my options were. Whatever they said I said no I don't want to do that, what other options? until they suggested a section. I said yes. It was tough. I had a thread on here and posters were so helpful.

user1493498573 · 05/05/2017 12:50

Thank you. Glad to here that they listened to you. The doctor i saw last night seemed open to discussing it and everyone doctors and midwives ive seen today feeling like my health and thoughts arent considered

This was my thread under a different username
Have a read, it might help, there were lots of helpful posters with useful info.

Same happened to me. 3 day induction that went nowhere. I had a bit of a meltdown and insisted the do a section or I would be discharging myself. They eventually relented but it was a horrible experience. I believe it went down on my notes as a semi-elective section.
Good luck Flowers

I was only 1-1.5cm dilated at that stage in both my inductions and they managed to break my waters easily. From then they started the drip and it was 6-8hrs before baby arrived. I don't think it's unusual to not go into full-blown labour from the pessary.

user1493498573 · 05/05/2017 13:19

After having two kids already and one of them was induced and all went smooth. I didnt prepare myself for this.
The doc just saw me and said if i want to opt for a section i have to wait until next wednesday when im 39 weeks. If not its attempting to break my waters later

That's ridiculous! So they keep you in for three days and then tell you they can't finish what they started until next Wednesday!? Is there another clinician you can discuss this with? Supervisor of midwives? Another doctor? Xx

Re my link above - see under "1.2.9 Maternal request for CS":

1.2.9.6 An obstetrician unwilling to perform a CS should refer the woman to an obstetrician who will carry out the CS. [new 2011]

Just mentally really had enough now. This doctor needs to come back soon and see if he can break my waters and if not i really want a section now not in 5 days (scares me after all this if they cant break them i will be left the 5days). But already seen a different doctor who wouldnt chat about anything as i already have a plan in place by this doctor 😏 but apprently labour ward is too busy for me (and has been all day) and because im not an emergency i wont be taken up yet x

How are you doing? Has baby made an appearance?

user1493498573 · 08/05/2017 21:23

Well i requested a section which they agreed to but not until wednesday when id be 39 weeks and i couldnt face that. So i agreed to them trying to break my waters which when 1cm and barely effaced very very painful and the doc gave up said id have to come back wednesday but just as i was leaving they broke. Long story short after a further 14 traumatic hours my lg arrived naturally a healthy 6lb 7oz

I'm so sorry it was traumatic, but congratulations on a healthy baby girl!
Hope you're doing ok Flowers

I was put on the drip to start contractions but wasnt dilating so they turned it up but then it caused hyperstimulation and lo went into distress so had to be turned down again. After 14 hours and only progressing 1cm they were about to prep me for a section but 10mins later she arrived naturally. Was certainly a labour i will remember.
Just going to enjoy her now. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.
