if you had postnatal depression after your first child what are the chances of having it on your second?

I was told pretty high! althoughnot exactly sure of the stastistics. One of the reasons I never had another child- mind you I feel that 3 is more than enough now!

I do hope so, try and keep a close eye on her and just wait and see! hopefully all will be well this time!

I had varying degrees of pnd with my first 4 babies, with my 5th nothing at all and I'm hoping things will be ok this time too. I have been able to connect my pnd directly with how I feel about each birth experience. With the less satisfactory/traumatic experiences the pnd has been more severe. I don't know whether this could be true for a lot of women or not.

terrible after my first , none at all after my second ! being more prepared second time round, being more informed about birth and feeling stronger and more settled in myself made a big difference. also, as soon as i was pregnant, i saw the GP and asked them to keep a close eye on me. which they did. and promised me they would not let me get so bad again. HV came to see me at 10 days, and encouraged me to come to baby clinic every 2 weeks, for her to check me out, but would have come to the house for me...

make sure the safety nets are in place , and then it can be nipped in the bud if it does happen.

i agree with Kitty...my first birth was not good and i feel that triggered the PND and then it was missed for a long time

second time , much better birth and different GP!!

Depends on the birth to some extent, I believe.

I had it after my emCS but nothing after my VBAC. Did eventually get anxiety stress after going back to work which spiralled into depression and so I chucked it in and started Doula training instead.

Also I think it depends on your personality, but being more aware second time around I have been better placed to ask for help.
