Hi, just wondering if there were a few of us around so we could have a little support group for expectant twin or multiple mummys? 11+4 today for me and mostly very excited but also very scared of all the horror stories and hope we can all reassure each other?

Hi everyone, so the scan was fine yesterday. The "quiet" twin, not so quiet, has managed to squirm over to the other side to join the other one so no wonder I can feel movement only on the right side!

They think it's two little girls, but as one is in an awkward place and also breech, it made the view somewhat hindered! Think DH is a little disappointed there isn't probably a boy in there. Think he feels he'll be rubbish as he's quite a blokey bloke and knows cars, sport, gardening etc but, in his words, "but I don't know anything about what girls like, I don't know fashion and I don't know about which princess is which!" :( bless him. Thing is, I know he'll be absolutely the best dad ever, and as a girl, I can honestly say, the best fun I had growing up was when my dad did stuff with us. I loved trainsets and Lego though...

Everyone else who knows, get what they wanted at your scan?

Readyforthefuture · 13/10/2015 20:24

Awe, it does help to know where they are in there, reassuring when you're feeling for every kick. Glad the scan went well.

We've got two girls on the way, DH is delighted and relieved - he's from an all girl family and whilst I'd say he's a guys guy he knows what to expect with girls. Personally I was hoping for one of each, but not disappointed at all.

Mind if I ask what everyone is planning to do about sleeping arrangements for the babies in the first couple of months?

43percentburnt · 14/10/2015 20:58

Hello, lots of new people have joined. I have had a busy two weeks. 20 week scan went well, babies are very similar in size and all seems fine. I had a hospital admission, dehydration and low iron. But all seems fine now.

Sleeping arrangements, yes we have been discussing this. Co-slept with ds and dd, any ideas how to co-sleep with two?

Have been perusing nappies this week. I'd like some newborn/prem reusables, does anyone have any recommendations?

Mummyofonesofar · 15/10/2015 14:47

Missed lots of posts. Will read through tonight or tomorrow. Just wanted to say I haven't disappeared - just been off work feeling naff. Exhaustion, nausea, and now a water infection. 16w on Saturday Smile

Hi all,
16+3 with non identical twins, starting to feel kicks as well as them wriggling around each other all the time, had hyperemesis gravidarum and am now suffering through a kidney infection, so I have lots of photos of my 2.
We have gotten the gracco side sleeper as a lady on another thread said it holds 2 teenies perfectly.

bluishskies · 15/10/2015 16:28

Hi everyone. DD has been ill so that is why I have been quiet. I coslept with DD because i found it easier with BFing. This time around going to put them in a cotbed in our bedroom at night and use the carrycots for the buggy during the day. At least, that is the plan for now.

Had the glucose tolerance test this morning. It was surprisingly difficult to not eat anything from midnight to 10:15 this morning. I had a bowl of cereal at quarter to midnight but I still woke up at 4 am absolutely starving. Fingers crossed I do not have gestational diabetes because I don't know how I would cope without carbs.

sleepyme1 · 16/10/2015 11:10

Glad that scans are going well. I co-slept with ds1 and ds2. I think we will do as we did last time and attach the cot to the side of our bed so they have their own space but i can reach over easily. I am worrying quite a bit today no real reason but im so worried that one of them has vanished. Far too much googleing. I have been trying to use our home doppler today. Just a cheapie angelsounds one. I can easily find 1 heartbeat but not the other. then again maybe i can hear both but think its the first one again. Im such a bag of nerves. just over a week to wait and see whats going on.

bluishskies · 19/10/2015 07:38

I'm sorry you feel so anxious sleepy. I remember the sheer panic I felt when I first read about vanishing twin syndrome. After about a week, I decided there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. Once I got my head around that simple yet really hard to accept fact, I was able to relax. I really hope your scan goes well.

I have my next scan on Wednesday. I'm hoping the consultant will book me in for my ELCS so I can have an actual date to look forward to. Plus, it means my mum can book her flight.

How is everyone doing?

Readyforthefuture · 19/10/2015 14:15

My next scan isn't until next Tuesday, would love to get an elcs scheduled but I don't think they'll even entertain that conversation until next month.

Having a rough start to the week, very achy joints, cold is now into its 3rd week and back ache is getting to be a big issue. The joys of the 3rd trimester are starting to hit!

joleyn · 19/10/2015 19:23

We had our 20 week scan last Friday. We are officially having a boy and a girl which we are very excited about. Have to go back in 2 weeks as boy wouldn't play ball for measurements but sonographer thought all looked ok. I did nearly pass out though which was really horrible :-(

Readyforthefuture · 20/10/2015 07:14

Congratulations joleyn lovely to hear you are on team pink and blue!

I was getting dizzy faint spells at around 20 weeks too, apparently it's low blood pressure. It picks up naturally as you make more blood in the next few weeks, assuming it's the same issue I had.

helybel · 21/10/2015 08:33

Congrats on the scan Joleyn! Lovely news.

Is everyone planning to take the advice of keeping the babies in their room for the first 6 months? Also, for those going for the graco side sleeper, how long can they stay in those little bassinets? I think they'd also be handy for having them downstairs with me while DH is at work.

joleyn · 22/10/2015 18:22

We kept our first ds in our room til about 5.5 months by then we were all disturbing each others sleep and he settled ffine in his room. I am goingto use an Iikea cot on our room. Thought about a graco bbutwas wworried it wouldn'tlast long eenough.

Readyforthefuture · 28/10/2015 22:06

Ok, I have finally decided what to do with sleeping arrangements. I'm going for the babybay maxi sleeper for our room, and will use the carry cots from the bugaboo we've just bought for downstairs in the day. I did buy Moses baskets, but not impressed by the build, the thickness of the mattresses etc, and they were 'Clair de lune' which I thought was a good brand - so they've gone back.

Otherwise, just did my 28 week scan, all on track and at the moment both head down. Have to start contemplating a 'normal ' delivery after convincing myself it would be c-sec.

HettySunshine · 30/10/2015 09:50

Hello, I found out yesterday that I'm expecting twins. Mind if I pull up a chair? Smile

Mummyofonesofar · 30/10/2015 10:47

kickedinyou must have had your girls by now?

Congrats and welcome to sleepyme hope you feel more confident at 12 weeks – I read myself crazy about vanishing twins too, I found out at 6.5 weeks.

Welcome to thelionsleeps, fizzlepops joleyn & hetty

helybel two girls (maybe) how exciting Smile
joleyn one of each – lovely !!

ready head down and literally ready now then Smile

We plan on having both in a cot bed in our room, have only bought one for now so hope they sleep ok together and the bassinets from the pram downstairs – we are also getting the vista. I am 18 weeks tomorrow – can’t wait to find out what we are having!! DP would like one of each, I would like 2 boys to add to the family – already have 1 DS – feel like with twins I don’t want a surprise of a girl or two and not knowing what to do with two babies – let alone two girls!! Time will tell Smile

I am back at work this week after 3 weeks sleeping and being sick – finally up to my pre pregnancy weight and have also added 1.5 pounds! So happy with that as was so worried that I have this ever growing bump and no added weight on it at all! Feeling some wiggles but only really in the evenings, they seem to shift sides together with both on the right or both on the left.

thelionsleeps · 30/10/2015 10:47

Hi everyone - glad all the scans are going well and the weeks are flying by.

I've managed to get to 34 weeks which was a marker I had. Still can't quite believe it.

Had some bh last week so had the steroid injections and was monitored and all ok. Bh stopped now and just trying to take it as easy as possible but it is halfterm here this week so have my little boy. Lots of tv and dvds this week!

Have a date for in between 36 and 37 weeks to go in and be induced but not telling anyone! Twin 1 head down and 2nd breech so all ok to try for a vaginal birth but twin 1 does keep spinning around so going to keep an open mind as to what will happen. Finally got all the hospital bags ready and pretty much there I think.

Mummyofonesofar · 30/10/2015 10:57

lion great marker to get to! I have stopped telling people by 40w due date (why they give them to twin mums I have no idea!!) and now us my 37 marker as a due date of 12th March but say "but of course they will come early". Sorry about the BH but glad they stopped and you ar resting at home.

Sorry you have half term to deal with, I will have Feb half term when I am 33-34 weeks too! Good luck for your planned v birth! I am hoping for one too.

I am stopping work at 31 weeks, handed in my paperwork this week (my pre Mat B1 stuff) feels so good to be on a countdown now! 13 weeks left Smile

Readyforthefuture · 31/10/2015 07:07

Lion, well done for hitting the 34 week milestone, that's the big one I have in mind too. I don't blame you for keeping the induction date to yourself, all the 'not long now' comments are enough to deal with.

I'm in the pin cushion phase at the moment, first there was the flu jab, then anti-D this week (I'm RH neg), and whooping cough on Monday. Weirdest thing is that I'm not really feeling the needles at all - perhaps your pain threshold changes???

Mummy I agree on the due date thing as well, I don't bother telling people the official due date anymore. My 'twin' due date i.e. 37 weeks, is Christmas day though, I'm really hoping they don't have to share their birthday with Christmas though.

thelionsleeps · 31/10/2015 16:58

Bet you can't wait to finish work Mummy. I have found it so hard and that is without working. Just walking around now is hard work! Yes I don't really say the proper due date as things are so different with twins - I don't think I could physically cope with another 6 weeks!

Ready sounds like you are getting used to the injections! I am rh neg too but had that one a little apart from the flu and whopping cough ones. The only one that did sting was the steroids so hope you don't need that one. Although they kept telling me before they gave it to me how sore it would be and that it was exactly like a bee sting so I think I expected it to really hurt! Christmas twins will be lovely.

Mummyofonesofar · 02/11/2015 09:46

ready sorry for all the jabs! I’m lucky that I had my flu jab a couple weeks ago, don’t need the anti-D one and whooping cough isn’t for weeks yet! But I have to say – my flu one really hurt.

lion really can’t wait to finish up no, it is really hard going – having three weeks off to sleep really helped but being back is hard, this weekend I was really tired. Had to have a 3hr nap on Sunday just so I could manage at work today! Also being tired makes me sick so was sick Thursday and Sunday Sad

bluishskies · 05/11/2015 10:48

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is keeping well. Had a scary few weeks here. Went in for my scan and consultant appointment at 29 weeks and twin b was smaller than twin a. So I had another scan on Tuesday at 31 weeks and turns out both are growing, she is just going to be smaller than him. I also had an appointment with a consultant yesterday and she tried to convince me I should give a vaginal birth a try. I just said no. I was induced with DD and after 2 days I had dilated a total of 4 cm. After another 12 hours on the syntocin drip and no progress, I told the doctor that I had had enough so I ended up with an EMCS. I have a ELCS date set for December 23 at 38 weeks. So fingers crossed.

How ready does everyone feel? Although I'm ready to not be pregnant anymore, I get a little worried about the prospect of 2 newborns and a 2 year old.

Mummyofonesofar · 05/11/2015 12:35

blu glad it turned out both are growing well - really getting close for you now! I thought you could be offered elcs at 37w with twins? May make Christmas a bit easier if you already have a DD?

I feel ok, bad is really hurting and no one will do anything about it. Over half way so am happy with that. Had some very odd cm last night so got checked over at the MW and all seems ok with HBs, swab sent off for testing so hope all is ok. Scan in 1.5 weeks Smile

Mummyofonesofar · 05/11/2015 12:35

Meant to say back is hurting Hmm

OP posts:
thelionsleeps · 05/11/2015 14:33

Blu glad all turned out ok. Are you having id twins? One of our id twins has always been bigger than the other but our difference has crept up to 20%.

It seems to be that the bigger twin has got bigger and the smaller twin is still growing well so the drs don't seem too concerned. At 35 weeks the smaller twin has started having some high doplar readings just outside of the normal range so they are keeping an eye on me.

It may be that they recommend a cs rather than a vaginal birth if the readings are still high. I must admit that although I thought I wanted a vaginal birth I am getting more worried about it as the time approaches and tempted to say that I want a cs but the recovery puts me off. I need to make my mind up!! How did you find your recovery last time? I know it is different for everyone so hearing lots of different stories. So glad you have a date - countdown and what a lovely christmas present.

Mummy sorry to hear about your back - your body goes through it with twins. Are you comfy sleeping? I make do with lots of pillows.but know people rave about pregnancy pillows. Try and take it easy and hope it doesn't get any worse!
