Moffii Oberon cradle - love the look, what are your thoughts?

Hi All
My first posting and I'm looking for some help please. My first boy really didn't sleep well and our second is coming soon and I really want to avoid the sleepless nights! A friend recommended the Amby hammock, but the Moffii looks so much more snuggly and the spiral frame is really beautiful and stylish. I saw it at the Mother and Baby show a couple of weeks ago and it looks fantastic but I've not really considered this type of cradle before. It's all very natural but I'd love to hear the thoughts of anybody out there who has used one of these hammocks. Are they really as good as they seem?

looks like one of those ridiculously expensive things you are conned into buying before your first baby cos you don't realise they are only a baby for like a second and then you won't need any of this stuff. you will only use it for a few months so don't bother. and i think the design is pretty bad.

OK, just learning this stuff!

gives you a picture.
and I've read other reviews at:

They told me at the Mother and Baby show that it lasts at least 9 months - until the baby can sit up in it (harder to do in a hammock than a crib) and they had designs of playtents and swing seats that go on the frame to give it life after holding the cradle.

here

looks dodgy imo, wouldn't feel safe dangling my baby in that thing

getting there...

I think it looks pretty and if I had the money I might have had one
the baby looks v cosy, looks like a freestanding sling.
how much is it?

Kumi · 02/11/2006 15:44

The frame and cradle and travel cot is £199

Friends raved about the Amby hammock.

'fraid i'm with pesme on the design of this though, looks very cumbersome (and knockable over by toddler)

Kumi · 02/11/2006 15:48

The frame was beautiful at the show - in life it was very elegant. They even had a real baby sleeping in it! You wouldn't be able to push it over easily at all.

what about getting a sleeping baby into it? looks awkward to me

largewhizzingrocketandtonic · 02/11/2006 16:26

It does look beautiful but i wouldnt buy it unless id had a firm loved it from someone. It does sound good but i can see the putting of a baby in it being tricky, especially if they were awake. I would be afraid to leave the room and jump every time i heard a noise in case the baby had managed to get a good swing going

Thank god for mumsnet, hopefully somone has tried one for you. Good luck

corrina28 · 02/11/2006 16:37

OMG its so beautiful but just how practical is it and how long would the baby stay in it for?

Swimmingfrankie · 02/11/2006 16:48

I bought one of these cradles a few months ago and it has made our life much easier! It does what it says it will do - provide a womb-like environment and they really do look peaceful and calm. Our boy slept in it from his first night and we haven't looked back. A minimum of 8 hours sleep a night. They didn't have this new frame when I bought ours I've bought another cradle for a friend of mine last month and her baby loves it as well. To answer some of the questions - they are very secure and the baby can't fall out and they can't roll onto their fronts either. I fold mine up into my change bag and use the clamp when I'm at friends houses so he can sleep and I can have an adult conversation. I've never done that with a travel cot before!

duchesse · 09/11/2006 15:10

It is beautiful, but I would be surprised if a more mobile baby didn't outgrow it before 9 months. Mine were pulling to standing (which admittedly looks as though it might be hard in this cradle) at 7 months and jumping out of their cots at 10-11 months ("dismantling" would be a more accurate description in my son's case; daughter 2 jumped). I don't know how they would have coped with this. Maybe they would have slept better. Who knows...

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy that moffii cradle? I am due in less than 3 months so have very little time :-)

Thanks,
Elia xx

weeonion · 28/08/2007 00:10

elia - i dont know where to get the moffi but we bought the amby nest. loved it - dd has been a star in it.
good luck

Aitch · 28/08/2007 00:20

we also loved the amby but the moffi looks adorable too. even if you only get 6 months out of it, the amby re-sells very well on ebay and is worth every penny in sleep.

weeonion · 28/08/2007 00:22

aitch - hi there! i thoughtyou were another amby mum a quick question for you. have you ever washed the mattress of yours??

Aitch · 28/08/2007 00:27

yep, i just put the whole lot in at 30 degrees. i actually emailed the inventor (ambrose, can't believe i remember that...) and that's what he told me to do. they are bloody brilliant aren't they?
sorry to hear about your crappy time with bfing, weeonion, i think you've been bloody heroic about it. hope the baby takes to the formula soon, i'm afraid i can't think of anything helpful other than harpsi's 90/10 suggestion.

weeonion · 28/08/2007 00:30

ta aitch! the joys of it all??!!

dont want to to hijack this thread but will be following you up on blw! cant wait to start it! she is avidly watching bananas

Aitch · 28/08/2007 00:33

great, we'll see you there.

Aitch · 28/08/2007 00:34

(personally i found BLW very soothing for my bfing traumas, weeonion, i hope it works out the same for you).

Bessie123 · 29/08/2007 14:44

That moffi thing looks great. I think I might buy one.

DeborahMarie · 19/11/2007 18:26

I have used the Ambi for my second, and it is superb, wish I had seen the Moffii though, great design and not so big a base. I think both will last to 9 mths depending on baby size.
