Hi there, I'm new to this - mumsnet and pregnancy - and due in May 2007. At just 13 weeks I finally feel able to get off the sofa in order to attempt something more strenuous than turning on the kettle. But what? I'm usually quite active but at the minute feel quite unfit. Can someone reccommend a good form of exercise that will not only help pregnancy and birth but is also aerobic? I know it's unlikely I'll be swimming the channel but any suggestions most appreciated. I live in N16, London so if anyone has any specifics please tell me. Thanks.

Hi rose, welcome and congrats!

I used to swim a lot - found it very relaxing and supportive of bump, even in late pregnancy.
My local pool also does classes for pg women, sort of gentle exercise to music (run by midwives just in case! lol).

I also cycled until about 7mo with my first. But I did that anyway, wouldn't recommend starting a running or cycling regime when pg. Pilates and yoga would be very good I imagine tho neither is aerobic - but good for posture and relaxation.

Hi,
I run fitness classes for expectant and new mums in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Each class runs for an hour and can only take a maximum of 12 people at a time. I am fully insured and hold the Central YMCA qualification level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity for Ante & Post Natal exercise.

There are so many benefits to exercising during pregnancy including helping in controlling excessive weight gain, faster post natal recovery and easing labour & delivery.

My classes are suitable for beginners to exercise as well as those having exercised before the pregnancy. All equipment including mats and weights are provided and I use a radio microphone similar to those in Health Clubs. I regularly teach for Fitness First, Esporta and Virgin Active.

If you require any further information, please contact me direct at Blooming Exercise by email [email protected]
