Here's my thought. I am having a baby in May and will also a have a 22 month old. I need a good double stroller. Any recommendations?

DD1 was 23 months when dd2 was born - we have a Out and About Nipper double stroller. It's a 3 wheeler and so far has been fantastic. It's light and easy to manouver and fits through standard doors. It's been robust enough to go walking through woodland tracks every day as well. I can't remember how much it was - around £250 which included two foot muffs and the raincover - we got ours on e-bay. Hope this helps.

madchad · 02/10/2006 22:35

I've a maclaren twin stroller which has just gone for service and replacement screw after 2.3 years of hard work. Robust but heavy. Taken abroad several times.
Used firstly for newborn and 18 month, now for newborn and 2 year old.
Think it's a bit narrow for say two older kids , but that's why it get's through doors.
I got it in John Lewis and they have given me a loan lighter one, I'll let you know how it works out.
The Mamas and Papas ones have a bad reputation for robustness and apparently terrible after sales service.

Shall also be watching this thread as ds will be 22 months when number 2 arrives in April.Has anyone any views on the Maclaren twin traveller? I was thinking of perhaps getting this one, after seeing it in Mothercare recently.

TheBlonde · 02/10/2006 22:44

I have been looking at tandems mostly...

  • Phil & Teds
  • Jane Powertwin
  • Jane twin two
  • MarcoSky
  • Mothercare ones

The Jane's seemed too big/long
The P&T was v easy to push but I just don't like it

bubbaloo · 02/10/2006 22:48

I was also looking and the P&T one but it seems the baby would be so far down, you'd end up forever bending. It does look nice though.

kittywits · 02/10/2006 22:52

MKG I asked a similar question recently as I am having another in March and the baby will be 15 months. I cannot stand the thought of using my old double buggy. I wanted advice on something that was light and eay to steer. The best one by far seemed to be the 'nipper', three wheeler. I am probably going to give that a go.
When I had gaps of about 2 years with some of the others I didn't bother with a double at all, just slings and a buggy board, it was so much easier not having to use one.
The older children had no probs using a buggy board and if they got tired I put the baby in the sling and they swapped places

madchad · 02/10/2006 22:55

Bubbaloo, mine is a twin traveller, and I have been happy with it.Fits through all doors and my modest boot.
I got it price matched at John Lewis for £199, and think it's been worth it.
I only mentio ned the repair so you'd know that stores will give you a loan one if there's a problem.
BTW, I also have a single Maclaren XT (3.5 years old), and use it with baby in a sling and 2.3 year old in it.

NastyNemo666 · 02/10/2006 22:55

When I had dd ds was 2.2yrs so I got a marco sky which was fab for my needs as I am tall and it works well for us. However when DB arrives DD will be 12mths so I am looking at a jane powertwin this time as I will need the front seat to recline a little.

kittywits · 02/10/2006 22:58

The thing that puts me off about the P&T is it's limited shelf life. The people I've known who have used it say the child underneath really hates being so low and not being able to see anything. But the thing that really bothers me about them is that the seat is really on the ground, right at car exhaust level, I wouldn't put any child down there let alone a new born

bubbaloo · 02/10/2006 23:04

Thanks for the info Madchad.
The twin traveller is also £199 at Mothercare at the mo and we're currently using the Maclaren Ryder for Ds which is fab,so once he's old enough to go on a buggy board, the new baby will have the Ryder to use.I have also just checked and found out that it's only 76cm's in width which has got to be a bonus, when attempting doorways,so I have a feeling we'll go for that one...unless I find out at my scan next week that we're having twins.

dollyp · 03/10/2006 12:35

Hello Kitty and TheBlonde

A couple of my friends have got P and Ts - they are light to push, but as Kitty says the baby is low down. Neither of the seats reclines so there is no chance of a lie down for a kip for either baby. I think I am going to go for a more traditional side by side one.

Can you get most side by side ones in shop aisles etc though?

elliepippamummy · 03/10/2006 12:52

I am expecting no 2 in jan and dd will be 2.4 lucky enough a friend gave us mclaren side by side seems really easy to put up and down and had a trial run witH dd and friends baby and fairly light to push with both of them in it. No problems with doors etc

TheBlonde · 03/10/2006 13:38

hi dolly - the maclarens go through shop doors fine. Problem for me is my house! It'll go in the front door but that is it
Maybe we'll just have to move!!

kittywits · 03/10/2006 14:07

I find double maclarens So So heavy.

largeginandtonic · 03/10/2006 14:11

I have 5 children, dst 7, dd 6, ds 4, ds 19mths. I have had every buggy going, im a bit of an addict...i used to collect shoes..hey ho. Anyway i had a twin mclaren 4 the twins and it was great. I had side by side 3 wheelers, lovely to push but awful to store get in the boot and in the house. I got a p and t when my last one was born and had a 2 and half year old. It was fantastic, never had any complaints about it bein too low by the 2 year old, he loved it and still does. He is still in it now, they just swap there they want to sit at 19mths and 4! I am due #6 in may and wouldnt dream of changing my p and t, its the best buggy ive ever had and it fits in my boot, i have a people carrier but all the seats are up as i have 5, this makes the boot rubbish. I am going to need a new car this time though instead of a buggy...unless its twins again...
Hope it helps

nicand2 · 03/10/2006 14:13

dollyp - I was just about to order a p & T's but didn't realise neither seat reclined which is a bit of a problem.

Definately need a tandem or similar as the pavemnts where we live aren't wide enough for a side by side.

Has anyone got a Jane powertwin? what are they like?

kittywits · 03/10/2006 14:42

largeginandtonic, ,'m also expecting no.6 in march, kids range from just 8 to 9 months. The baby will be 15 months when no.6 is born. We have a people carrier with no boot and are now attempting to buy a 9 seater vito traveliner!

TheBlonde · 03/10/2006 14:56

nicand2 - I gave the Jane powertwin a bit of a push about in mothercare on Sunday (with no occupants).

The P&T seemed much easier to steer & push.
The front seat in the Jane didn't seem to recline very much/ at all (memory is failing me now)

largeginandtonic · 04/10/2006 11:17

kittywits are you there? We must chat, im usually on the due in may sequel thread pls find me. Def need a new car whats the vito like?
