Hi girls, not sure if I am posting on the right board...

I am 5weeks and 3days pregnant and I want to want to exercise :( I had been running before I found out but as I am a beginner I feel it might be too risky to continue...

What else can I do? I have an exercise bike at home is that ok to use? And I have been going walks but that's it.

Any advice would be helpful. Xx

Hi Alby
My midwife told me that if you were doing it before you were pregnant, feel free to carry on- I've kept on running, but at a slower speed, and haven't been out as much as I did pre-BFP. I did a bit of reading around and the general advice is to not let yourself overheat and to try to keep your 'perceived level of effort' at no more than 7 out of 10 (how unspecific!!)

To be honest, I couldn't really be bothered for the first trimester, so if you're feeling up to it, fill your boots!

I've exercised all the way through and I'm at week 33. I stopped running at about week 16 after my MW scared me by telling me about someone who insisted on running late into the pregnancy and had a prolapse! Now I just do lots of walking uphill fast on the pregnancy/bicycle/cross-trainer. I plan to keep going as long as I can but might bring in more swimming in the past few weeks. You could try antenatal pilates/yoga/swimming. TBH I've found it's really helped me to keep going, I can still tie my own shoes :), bend down, walk for miles, have no joint/muscle pain at the moment, don't really get tired or out of breath (I go to the gym after work) - could just be luck but could be down to maintaining some (!) fitness throughout.
